Google and Make-A-Wish Singapore Fulfil Young Tech Enthusiast’s Dream with Inspiring Visit

A childhood fascination with maps and technology has come full circle for one young Singaporean, thanks to a meaningful collaboration between Google and Make-A-Wish Singapore.

On 25 February 2026, 18-year-old Isaac was given an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience at Google’s Singapore office, an opportunity that brought him face-to-face with the very technology that first sparked his curiosity years ago.

From Virtual Exploration to Real-World Inspiration

As a child, Isaac spent hours exploring the world through Google Maps, virtually travelling across continents and discovering faraway places like Madagascar from the comfort of his home. What began as simple curiosity has since evolved into a deeper passion for technology.

Now a student pursuing Information Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Isaac is turning that early interest into a potential career path.

A Rare Look Inside Google Maps

During his visit, Isaac met with engineers and team members behind Google Maps, gaining valuable insights into how the platform operates on a global scale. The team walked him through the integration of satellite imagery, environmental data and geographic coordinates that power the navigation system used by millions worldwide.

The experience offered Isaac a real-world perspective on concepts he is currently studying, including large-scale data management and system architecture, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application.

Inspired by Possibility

Isaac, who lives with polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis and meningoencephalitis, found the visit both educational and deeply motivating. Beyond the technical knowledge, the experience sparked new ideas about how technology can be used to create more accessible and inclusive navigation tools.

The Google Maps team was equally inspired by Isaac’s passion and curiosity, making the visit a meaningful exchange for everyone involved.

Looking Ahead

The experience has further strengthened Isaac’s long-held ambition, to one day work at Google and contribute to building technologies that impact lives around the world.
