The Ascott Limited has officially opened lyf Chinatown Singapore, marking the fifth lyf branded property in the country. Combining a row of conserved shophouses with a newly built extension, the 90 key property blends the rich heritage of Chinatown with lyf’s signature social living concept, offering guests an experience centred on community, culture and authentic local connections.
Having welcomed its first guests on 3 July 2026, lyf Chinatown Singapore encourages visitors to explore the historic district beyond its well-known attractions by engaging with the neighbourhood’s evolving culture, creative scene and diverse communities. Designed around the belief that meaningful travel comes from genuine local interactions, the property positions itself as a gateway to experiencing Chinatown like a resident rather than a tourist.
The design of the property draws inspiration from the people, traditions and stories that have shaped Chinatown over generations. Commissioned artworks can be found throughout the arrival spaces, six communal areas and all nine room categories, reflecting familiar neighbourhood icons such as historic shophouses, lanterns and koi fish, which symbolise prosperity.
A recurring design element throughout the property is the Queen’s Crepe Myrtle, a flower native to South India’s Coromandel Coast, where the Chulia traders who settled in Singapore began their journeys. The flower is depicted alongside whimsical traveller figures, symbolising both the merchants who crossed the seas to establish communities in Chinatown and today’s travellers discovering the district. This visual narrative creates a connection between the area’s trading heritage and its modern identity.
Community engagement is at the heart of the guest experience at lyf Chinatown Singapore. The property introduces lyf Hacks, an insider guide curated by the lyf crew, providing practical tips and local recommendations to help guests navigate Chinatown with confidence and uncover hidden gems throughout the precinct.
Guests can also participate in a range of curated community activities that celebrate the district’s multicultural heritage. One of the highlights is an exclusive 90-minute Heritage Walk led by the property’s Ambassador of Buzz, offering insights into Chinatown’s historic landmarks, lesser-known stories and colourful murals tucked away in its streets and alleyways.
Throughout the year, the property will also collaborate with local businesses and cultural partners to offer a rotating selection of experiences, including traditional Chinese calligraphy, henna artistry, Muslim friendly perfumery workshops and opportunities to sample beloved local delicacies. These programmes are designed to immerse travellers in the neighbourhood’s diverse traditions while supporting the local community.
To mark its official opening, lyf Chinatown Singapore is offering a limited time promotion for Ascott Star Rewards members. Guests who book directly through the website by 30 September 2026 for stays until 1 October 2026 can enjoy up to 25 percent off stays of at least six nights, providing an opportunity to experience the property’s community driven hospitality while exploring one of Singapore’s most vibrant cultural districts.
