In Singapore, we have salted egg yolk crabs, cookies, potato chips and just about everything. There is no stopping the food craze for all things salted egg yolk and one of Singapore’s home-grown pastry brand, OLLELLA has jumped on the bandwagon to launch their version of Singapore’s first-ever Salted Egg Yolk Kueh Lapis.
OLLELLA’s Kueh Lapis follows a 60-year-old recipe and the Salted Egg Yolk version will be a delightful addition as an unique Chinese New Year snack to usher in the festivities.
Other Kueh Lapis flavours from OLLELLA are Prune Rum, Nutella and their signature Original Spiced which is formulated from the founders’ grandmother’s recipe. Each of the Kueh Lapis are made with a secret blend of spices and with premium Dutch butter. The Kueh Lapis are all priced the same at – S$24 for 350g; S$50 for 700g; and S$90 for 1400g.
I sampled the Salted Egg Yolk Kueh Lapis and found the blend of sweet and savoury a delightful surprise to the palate. I shared it my family and everyone loved it. The Kueh is smooth and buttery with little chunks of salted egg yolk adding in that extra crunch.
Founded in 2016, OLLELLA is a partnership between two Indonesian sisters, OLLyvia and MarcELLA Putri who envisioned a pastry shop with delicious pastries layered with different flavours and textures. Besides their Kueh Lapis, OLLELLA has also come up with cookies and a special choux tower, just for Chinese New Year.
OLLELLA’s Almond Cookies are priced at S$20 for 35 pieces or S$6 for 10 pieces. Pineapple Pillows retails at S$22 for 25 pieces or S$8 for 8 pieces. Butter Cookies retails at S$18 for 30 pieces or S$6 for 12 pieces. Coconut Cookies are sold at S$22 for 30 pieces or S$6 for 12 pieces. All the cookies are hand-made and comes in creative packaging.
The highlight piece from OLLELLA this year got to be their impressive Prosperity Choux Tower, priced at S$88 per tower. This is a dazzling centre-piece which comprises 30 pieces of dainty choux. Adorned with pineapple compote and fresh Chantilly cream choux, it is a beautiful replica of a pineapple. Hidden within are four auspicious numbers, revealed when the four choux are removed from their stem.
The popular creations are available at OLLELLA’s new store at Ngee Ann City, Takashimaya Basement 2 Food Hall, #B208-4 and the Takashimaya Atrium Lunar New Year Fair (from 18 Jan to 14 Feb 2018).
Online orders are also available or you can visit their original store too:
