Meta Brings Digital Dialogue IRL to Singapore, Encouraging Families and Teens to Talk About Online Safety

Meta has launched Digital Dialogue IRL, a new interactive public experience in Singapore aimed at helping teens, parents, educators and community stakeholders engage in meaningful conversations about online safety, social media habits and digital wellbeing.

Running from 25 June to 31 July 2026 at the Temasek Shophouse, the free experience invites visitors to explore real world digital challenges through visual conversation cards, guided prompts and interactive touchpoints. Topics covered include screen time management, social comparison, feed control, peer pressure, cyberbullying and maintaining healthy boundaries between online and offline life.

The initiative also highlights the safety features built into Teen Accounts across Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. Introduced earlier this year, Teen Accounts come with default protections developed using parent feedback and inspired by age-appropriate movie ratings. These settings are designed to ensure that teens are shown content suitable for their age group and cannot disable key protections without parental approval.

The launch follows pilot workshops conducted with 304 students from two Singapore secondary schools. Through visual storytelling activities and guided discussions, students explored themes related to digital wellbeing and online identity. Findings from the pilot suggest that structured conversations can improve young people’s understanding of online safety tools and encourage more open discussions about social media use.

According to the results, students who participated in the workshops were 19 percentage points more likely to say they understood the safety tools available on their Instagram Teen Account, with familiarity increasing from 52 per cent before the programme to 71 per cent afterwards.

The pilot also revealed that 69 per cent of students felt the sessions enabled honest and open conversations about social media. Among educators surveyed after the programme, 72 per cent agreed that the illustrations used during the sessions played a key role in helping students engage with complex digital topics, while 61 per cent said they planned to incorporate Digital Dialogue resources into future teaching.

By creating a shared space for discussion and reflection, Digital Dialogue IRL aims to support stronger digital literacy and encourage healthier online experiences for young people and their families.

Digital Dialogue IRL is open to the public at Temasek Shophouse from 25 June to 31 July 2026, with free admission for all visitors.
