[Review] MICHELIN-Starred Flavours Meet Family Buffet at Swensen’s Unlimited Limited Time Ramadan Special

From now to 30 April 2026, Swensen’s Unlimited is teaming up with MICHELIN Green Star awardee Hafizzul Hashim to serve up a Ramadan buffet inspired by nostalgic balik kampung flavours.

Yes, the kind that make your parents pause mid-bite and say, “This one tastes like home.”

And the best part? It’s all-you-can-eat. No pricing surcharge.

From Kampung Roots to the Buffet Line

Chef Hafizzul grew up in Lumut, fishing and cooking close to the land. His food reflects that upbringing, heirloom recipes shaped by memory, community and serious flavour control.

Instead of just recreating old dishes, he reimagines them. Think tradition, but polished. Comfort food, but intentional.

Standout Dishes Parents Will Recognise (and Kids Will Actually Eat)

Here’s what to look out for when you’re navigating the buffet line:

Asam Pedas Daging Tetel

A rich, sour-spicy beef stew inspired by Minangkabau traditions and kampung gotong royong spirit. Made with beef trimmings and layered with tamarind and spice, it’s hearty, nostalgic and deeply satisfying.

Chicken Curry Kapitan

A Peranakan classic rich with spice and coconut milk. Familiar, fragrant and perfect with rice. Your makcik will approve.

Gulai Lemak Belinjau Leaves & Mussels

Earthy belinjau leaves balanced with calamansi brightness, creamy coconut milk and savoury depth. It’s subtle but complex, the kind of dish that quietly steals attention.

Ikan Goreng Masak Acar Berlada

A revival of an old-school preparation that predates chillies, using Javanese long pepper and black pepper instead. Fried fish meets pickled vegetables and masala spices. Traditional preservation technique meets bold flavour.

Lodeh Putih with Prawns

Creamy coconut base with cabbage, pumpkin and prawns. Comfort food energy. The safe pick for kids and cautious eaters.

Weekend Live Stations Worth Queuing For

Because no Ramadan buffet is complete without a little theatre:

  • Salmon Coulibiac Sambal Kelapa Turmeric Leaf a Russian pastry structure filled with Southeast Asian flavours. Unexpected, but it works.
  • Lemon Grass Stuffed Chicken inspired by Laotian royal cuisine
  • Deep Fried Pandan Chicken wrapped and fried for that sweet, nutty aroma

Go hungry. Bring the whole family. And maybe pace yourself because Ramadan evenings are long, but buffet regret is longer.
