Singaporeans know Jumbo Group for its iconic seafood feasts. With JUMBOREE at Tai Seng, the brand takes a fresh approach. Instead of a traditional sit-down restaurant, it introduces its first food hall concept, pairing signature seafood dishes with a casual, social atmosphere.

The first thing that caught my eye was the Wine and Beer on Tap. With over 20 selections starting from $0.36 per 10ml, you can customise your pours across wines, beers and craft beers. I enjoyed sampling smaller portions and moving between classic labels and more playful options like Ondeh Ondeh and Osmanthus Pear Cream Ale. It makes trying something new low-commitment and fun.

The live band adds another layer to the experience. From Monday to Saturday, they perform at 8pm to 8.45pm, 9.15pm to 10.15pm, and 10.45pm to 11.30pm. I loved seeing diners vibing and singing along while enjoying their meals. It turns what could have been just a dinner stop into a lively evening hangout.

On to the food. The Crisp Fried Seafood Beancurd was a great way to start. Golden on the outside and soft inside, it carried gentle seafood flavours without being overwhelming. It’s simple comfort done really well.

The Fragrant Moutai Sambal Chicken came next, and I liked how the sambal had a steady heat with aromatic depth, while the Moutai added subtle complexity. The sauce clings to the chicken, making it perfect with rice.

The 1987 Signature Curry Fish Head with JUMBO You Tiao is a must-try. The curry is thick and lemak, coating the fish generously while letting its natural sweetness shine through. The oversized you tiao is more than just a visual flourish. It soaks up the curry beautifully if you like, but it is also delicious on its own, airy and lightly crisp, making it a treat even without the curry.

Another standout was the Signature Black Bean Sauce Live Mud Crab on Shunde Chen Cun Flat Rice Roll. The crab meat was firm and sweet, and the black bean sauce was rich and savoury. The silky Shunde flat rice rolls underneath soaked up all the juices, becoming deeply flavourful while keeping a satisfying, chewy texture that made every mouthful enjoyable.

The 1987 Signature Live Australian Lobster Mapo Tofu gave a familiar dish a luxurious twist. Soft tofu in a lightly numbing sauce paired surprisingly well with chunks of lobster. It felt indulgent but not heavy, and I appreciated how it still kept the essence of a homey comfort dish.

For something lighter, the Duo Fish Pao Fan from Chao Ting Teochew Pao Fan was soothing. The broth was clean, the fish added texture, and the rice absorbed just enough flavour to feel hearty without being too heavy.

The Dry Wonton Noodle from Kok Kee Wonton Noodle delivered exactly what I was hoping for. The noodles were springy with a firm bite, tossed in a savoury, slightly sweet sauce that coated each strand evenly. The wontons were plump and well-seasoned, and the slices of char siew added a smoky sweetness that rounded out the bowl nicely.

To finish, the pork, chicken and mutton satay offered a classic, grilled finish. Each skewer had a light char, the meat stayed tender, and the peanut sauce added a familiar nutty touch.
