Tanglin Cookhouse has introduced Lemak & Co., a new à la carte buffet that brings local flavours to the forefront. Known for its colonial-inspired menu, this shift towards Asian comfort food feels deliberate, with unlimited servings of 15 lemak classics served over 90 minutes. Available all day from Monday to Wednesday at $29.90++ per person, it presents a relaxed and approachable way to enjoy familiar favourites.
I began the meal with the Emping Chips, which were light and crisp with a slight bitterness that worked well alongside the sambal belacan.
Moving on to the starters, the Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce was a comforting snack. The meat was tender and well-grilled, while the peanut sauce was rich without being overly sweet.
The White Rojak Quinoa Salad offered a welcome pause between the richer plates. The mix of jicama, cucumber, and quinoa felt light and refreshing, with the ginger flower dressing adding just enough fragrance to lift the dish.
Everything came together around the Turmeric Coconut Rice, which formed the base of the meal. Fragrant and fluffy, it paired naturally with the stronger flavours and absorbed the sauces without feeling heavy.
The Ayam Goreng Berempah was a standout option to me for its fragrance and spice. Fried until crisp, the chicken was well-seasoned with a gentle heat that worked equally well on its own or with rice.
The Sambal Barramundi with Cincalok delivered bolder flavours. The fish was tender, and the sambal brought a salty, umami edge from the fermented shrimp, pairing especially well with the turmeric rice.
The Braised Beef Rendang leaned rich and comforting, with beef that was soft and clearly slow-cooked.
Dessert closed the meal on a familiar note. The Heritage Gula Melaka Sago Pudding was soft and lightly sweet, the Warm Yam Orh Nee with Candied Ginkgo Nuts was smooth and mellow, and the Cendol Coconut Ice Cream offered a cool finish with classic pandan and gula melaka flavours.
Beyond Lemak & Co., Tanglin Cookhouse offers an extensive à la carte menu featuring a variety of cuisines, from hearty pastas and sandwiches to other signature mains. There’s also a wide range of refreshing and inventive drinks to pair with your meal, including fresh juices, fruit teas, and creative mocktails.
