Taiwanese cellist Yoyo Wu Deng Kai is set to enchant Singaporean audiences with Heartstrings – the Music of Anita Mui, a special tribute concert celebrating the legendary Hong Kong singer and actress. The one-night-only performance will take place on 25 May 2025, 7PM, at Victoria Concert Hall, promising a nostalgic journey through Mui’s greatest hits, reimagined through the soulful tones of the cello.
Anita Mui, often hailed as the “Madonna of the East,” left an indelible mark on Cantopop and Mandopop before her untimely passing in 2003. This concert will showcase her timeless classics, including 《心债》 (composed by Joseph Koo), 《胭脂扣》 (the award-winning theme from Rouge), and 《似水流年》 (by Japanese composer Kitaro). Fans can also expect renditions of beloved tracks like 《女人花》 and 《亲密爱人》, originally penned by Taiwan’s top songwriters.
Making his Singapore debut, Yoyo has earned acclaim for his emotive performances, having graced stages at the Golden Melody Awards, Golden Bell Awards, and Golden Horse Awards. His collaborations with Mandopop icons like A-Mei, Valen Hsu, and Hebe Tien have further cemented his reputation as a versatile musician. With over 86,000 YouTube subscribers and videos amassing millions of views, Yoyo’s expressive cello renditions resonate deeply with global audiences.
Accompanying him is pianist and arranger Wu I Ling, ensuring a seamless fusion of classical and contemporary sounds.
