DBS Foundation Invests SGD 88 Million to Expand Financial Inclusion and Essential Support for Vulnerable Communities in Asia

DBS Foundation has committed SGD 88 million to broaden financial inclusion and provide essential resources for vulnerable communities across Asia. This funding aims to support initiatives that uplift aging societies and improve access to basic needs, targeting over two million low-income individuals across DBS’s key markets by 2027.

The announcement took place at the inaugural DBS Foundation Impact Beyond Summit in Singapore, which brought together experts, businesses, and social leaders to address the challenges and opportunities of aging populations. Notable attendees included bestselling author Dan Buettner, known for his Emmy-winning series Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. Discussions concluded with a fireside chat between President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and DBS CEO Piyush Gupta, exploring mindset shifts needed to tackle aging-related issues.

Launch of 15 New Programs to Empower Communities

In partnership with aligned organizations, DBS Foundation is rolling out 15 new programs designed to provide essential support and promote financial resilience. These programs address immediate needs and equip individuals with skills for long-term stability. The initiatives, shaped by each market’s unique needs, include:

• Essential Needs: Nine programs offer resources such as healthcare (including mental health), food security, and education. Examples include improving home conditions for young children and enhancing quality of life for seniors.
• Financial Inclusion: Six programs focus on financial resilience by improving access to financial services, digital literacy, and upskilling to boost employability.

These initiatives are part of DBS’s broader commitment to invest SGD 1 billion and contribute 1.5 million employee volunteer hours over the next decade, reinforcing the Foundation’s mission to create societal impact.

Impact Beyond Series and New Award for Aging Solutions

The DBS Foundation’s Impact Beyond series highlights collective efforts to address social challenges, starting with aging. This September, the Foundation hosted a business dialogue on the topic and introduced the Impact Beyond Award, offering up to SGD 1 million per winner, mentorship from DBS leaders, and support for innovative solutions that enhance “living spans” and promote dignified aging. Applications are open through November 30.
