Deliveroo Champions Inclusive Road Safety for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Support of Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030

This October, Deliveroo Singapore takes a significant step toward promoting road safety for persons with disabilities (PwDs) through its pioneering initiative, ‘Inclusive Roads For All.’ As part of its fourth annual Rider Safety Month, Deliveroo partnered with local disability charity SPD to host a hands-on workshop, focused on raising awareness and equipping riders with the knowledge to support Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) users and PwDs on the roads.

Inclusive Roads for Safer Streets

In this first-of-its-kind initiative, Deliveroo’s riders were trained to navigate roads more considerately, especially ahead of upcoming government regulations regarding PMA users. The workshop not only equipped Deliveroo riders with essential skills for safe road practices but also empowered them to contribute to a safer, more inclusive environment for PwDs, pedestrians, and fellow riders.

Held at AIBI Maxwell, the event brought together over 50 participants, including Deliveroo riders and PwDs. Representatives from SPD shared key insights on disability awareness, followed by hands-on simulations where participants practiced navigating tight spaces, kerbs, ramps, and corners using PMAs, reflecting real-world challenges faced by PwDs daily.

Supporting the Enabling Masterplan 2030

This year’s Rider Safety Month aligns with Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030, complementing national efforts to create a more inclusive society for PwDs through enhanced infrastructure, policies, and education. Deliveroo’s initiative highlights the importance of empowering its riders to ensure safer streets for all, especially for the vulnerable.

Collaborating for Road Safety

Throughout the month-long campaign, Deliveroo has partnered with key community organizations to provide additional workshops focused on safety. These include collaborations with the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Responders Plus Programme, the Red Cross for First Aid and AED courses, and defensive riding training with the Singapore Cycling Federation and ComfortDelGro. These efforts ensure Deliveroo riders are fully prepared to navigate the roads safely.
