Ombak Festival Makes Waves at Desaru Coast with Iconic Music and Cultural Extravaganza

From 13 to 15 September, the inaugural Ombak Festival brought the shores of Desaru Coast to life with an unforgettable weekend of world-class music, art, and cultural celebrations. Featuring global music legends like Grace Jones, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Macy Gray, and The Cardigans, the festival drew over 5,000 attendees from around the world, making it a smashing success and setting a new standard for family-friendly festivals in the region.

A vibrant blend of live music, culinary experiences, and visual arts, Ombak Festival transformed Desaru Coast into a lively hub of creativity. Festival-goers enjoyed the luxury of staying at premier properties such as Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas, and One&Only Desaru Coast, while soaking in the festive atmosphere on the tranquil beaches.

The festival kicked off with a beachfront barbeque at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, featuring mouthwatering creations by Carbon KL and Reka. The excitement carried into the evening with the Ombak Supper Club, offering an exclusive dining experience with the stars, before wrapping up the night with British DJ Quantic’s electrifying set at All Q’ued Up.

Over the next two days, attendees were treated to stunning performances on the Ombak Main Stage. Music fans were thrilled by the legendary Grace Jones, soul icon Macy Gray, the visionary Nile Rodgers & CHIC, and Swedish pop sensations The Cardigans. Regional artists also shone, with performances by Johor’s Joe Flizzow, Singapore’s Aisyah Aziz, Indonesia’s Thee Marloes, and more.

Beyond the music, the festival was a culinary delight, featuring dishes from award-winning chefs. Highlights included the Ember Beach Club Brunch by Chef Andrew Walsh, Latin Street Flavours by Feliz, and Flavours of Borneo by Reka. Chef Adu Amran, along with food author Khir Johari, also presented a journey through Nusantara cuisine, while showcasing the best of Johor’s street food in Streets & Beats.

The festival’s cultural offerings were equally impressive, with installations by renowned artists like Abdul Multhalib Musa and Ernest Goh.

Families enjoyed a wide range of activities, including a Star Wars-inspired wayang kulit, storytelling sessions, and exploring Johorean folklore through giant puppets crafted by Thailand’s Nice Monster studio.
