Nothing has introduced Phone (2a), the first-ever internal smartphone concept born just months after the company’s launch in 2020. This innovative device seamlessly integrates key phone components into its external design, presenting essential functions in entirely new ways.
At the heart of Phone (2a) lies its revolutionary internal design concept, symbolized by the iconic “eyes” represented by cameras housed within the NFC coil. Serving as the intelligence hub of the device, much like a brain, this design approach showcases a bold departure from traditional smartphone layouts. The circular grid system positions other elements, extending to the phone’s edges to create rounded corners with a larger radius, resulting in a cohesive and softer aesthetic.
Phone (2a) boasts an industry-first feature with its 90° angle unibody cover wrapping around the edges, offering a fresh perspective on design while seamlessly integrating the dual camera module. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this structural innovation enhances the device’s durability, leading to notable improvements in drop test results.
Adding to its allure, Phone (2a) achieves a sense of asymmetrical balance by purposefully disrupting the flow of its top with a distinct lower design. Drawing inspiration from Massimo Vignelli’s iconic New York subway map, the battery cover reflects Nothing’s commitment to blending art and functionality seamlessly.
Even the camera “bump” serves a dual purpose, contributing to stabilizing the phone when laid flat on surfaces and minimizing finger obstructions during photography sessions. This attention to detail demonstrates Nothing’s dedication to marrying form with function.
