[Review] Tranquil Orchard Rooftop Dining at Edition Rooftop Bar & Restaurant

If you are looking for a tranquil rooftop dining location in the Orchard Road area, the newly opened Edition Rooftop Bar & Restaurant is worth checking out.

Crowning the newly opened Citadines Connect City Centre Hotel at Clemenceau Avenue, Edition spans over 3,000 sq ft and is a standalone restaurant from the hotel. Full-fledged restaurant by day, contemporary gastrobar from sundown, Edition is situated by the hotel floor on the top floor, surrounded by greenery.

Enjoy a delightful brunch, savour local and international culinary creations or simply revel in a wide curation of signature and popular cocktails, fine wines and spirits from their Breakfast Edition and Daily Edition (lunch and dinner) menus.

Helming the culinary creations is Chef Gabriel Cher, whose career in F&B spans nearly 18 years. Chef Gabriel was part of the team that established the famed Potato Head and premium rooftop restaurant, Sky Lido.

A believer in using fresh ingredients from sustainable sources, Chef Gabriel’s signature dishes for Edition are described as a progressive take on classics with an Asian influence.

We were invited for a lunch tasting and these were the items we sampled:

Edition’s Cloppino (S$18) – white wine, seafood broth, prawns, clams, parsley, basil
Catalonian’s Pick (S$18) – grilled tiger prawns, romesco sauce, pickled red chili, fried shallots, sesame seaweed
Charred Broccoli (S$12) – garlic aioli, parmesan, kailan puree, shredded seaweed
Not Your Ordinary Ham & Cheese (S$22) – grilled sourdough sandwich, miso mustard, country style ham, serrano ham, melted brie
Senor Pork (S$42) – grilled spanish iberico pork shoulder, rhubard chutney, roasted pumpkin puree, burnt butter cheese, grilled baby cabbage

From the plating and presentation, the dishes seem like conventional western dishes, but when you dig in, there are hints of Asian flavours, with the use of ingredients such as pickled red chili and seaweed to enhance the flavours. The standout dishes for me were two of the starters – Editon’s Cloppino and Catalonian’s Pick, both enticing me for more after I licked up the plates. The former is an intense soup whereby you can clearly taste the wine note while the latter spice up your palate a little to get you ready for the main courses.

For the mains, the Senor Pork was grilled to perfection – tender on the inside and lightly charred on the outside for texture.

For drinks, to give itself an added edge over its competitors, Edition endeavour to only serve top-rated wines that are awarded 87 points and above by top wine authorities. In addition, a wide selection of rare cask whiskies, cocktail concoctions and highly-prized liquors are also available.

Newly furbished from an office space and recently launched, Edition’s rooftop venue and tranquil surroundings make it suitable for private events like weddings and corporate functions. Price is reasonable for the ambience and location, making it suitable for date nights and intimate merry-making with friends and family.
