UNIQLO invites all to JOIN its campaign on marine biodiversity protection through the Power of Clothing

UNIQLO launches JOIN: THE POWER OF CLOTHING, a global campaign to support activities for a better world. The objective of the campaign is to encourage all to play an active role in UNIQLO’s environmental sustainability activities.

The two main initiatives, conducted within UNIQLO stores and UNIQLO online store, are Buy and JOIN and Learn and JOIN. These initiatives aim to raise awareness among customers on global environmental challenges such as ocean pollution, and to inspire actions that make the world a better place.

To ensure a strong local impact on marine biodiversity protection in Singapore, UNIQLO has pledged a cash donation of SGD $20,000 to the Garden City Fund, a registered charity and IPC established by the National Parks Board, which aims to complement the Board’s efforts towards fulfilling its City in Nature vision. The donation will be channeled to the Garden City Fund’s Plant-A-Coral, Seed-AReef Programme, which supports the habitat enhancement efforts at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park.

Filling up marine life with colours at UNQLO’s Sustainability Corners

From 1 to 31 August, young ones can create their favourite scene of the marine life with drawing and colouring materials available at the Sustainability Corners located in five UNIQLO stores – UNIQLO 51@AMK, UNIQLO Jewel Changi Airport, UNIQLO Orchard Central, UNIQLO Plaza Singapura and UNIQLO Tampines Mall.

The engaging hands-on activity can help to strengthen appreciation for marine life and spark conversations on the importance of marine protection among customers – be it between parent and child or among siblings visiting the store together.

Cleaning up the coast with UNIQLO and Green Nudge

Most ocean waste comes from everyday garbage from urban areas that has been washed out into the sea. To encourage participation for coastal clean-ups, UNIQLO Singapore partners The Green Nudge, a local social enterprise which supports businesses and communities to create a positive environmental impact to create two clean-up opportunities.

In conjunction with World Cleanup Day 2022, which falls on 17 September 2022, there will be two sessions of coastal clean-ups held over two Saturdays at Yishun Dam:

  • 17 September 2022 (8:30 AM – 11 AM)
  • 24 September 2022 (2:30 PM – 5 PM)

The top ten best-performing participants who collected the most amount of trash will receive a gift set comprising Doraemon Sustainability Mode Toy, Pocketable Bag and T-shirt.

You can sign up from 17 August 2022 onwards via UNIQLO’s Sustainability page.

Learning more about ocean pollution through exclusive content

In addition, you can learn about environmental issues and take action through a dedicated website that includes messages from UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassadors calling for participation in the campaign, and a video with LifeWear Special Ambassador, Haruka Ayase outlining some of the sustainability focus areas at UNIQLO.

There is also a wide range of special content to learn about ocean-related issues, including an interview with a biological oceanographer, Ryota Nakajima and an interview with environmental specialist Dr. Keith Alverson.
