Unusual innovations on dating applications

Any dip in excitement sooner or later turns into a routine and gets boring very quickly. One of the most striking examples is dating sites and apps. We’re talking about the classic representatives of such platforms: Tinder, Badoo, Bumble and others. They have existed for many years and during this time they have experienced both ups and downs.

One of the most recent rises in popularity for dating apps was during the coronavirus pandemic, when Tinder and its rivals really grew in audience. But then the decline began again — users are simply not interested in the standard approach to online dating. Everyone wants something new!

Many people still use dating apps out of inertia or of habit. They don’t really believe that they can find a soulmate, but they continue to log into the application day after day, swipe, like, and so on. Usually without much result. Moreover, 40% of users of dating services admit that notifications from applications only annoy them, because in most cases these are either reminders or regular mailings from developers.

As a result, today classic dating web services are gradually losing their audience. And users are looking for something more unusual, new and original.

Innovations in the internet dating industry worth paying attention to

Returning to the topic of the pandemic, it should be mentioned that it has caused the emergence of many new dating sites. As well as increasing interest in existing ones that are different from Tinder and its clones.

Among the most interesting innovations in the web dating industry are several platforms:

1. Thursday

An excellent dating service for those who feel that the search for a soulmate takes too much time and effort. The point is that the Thursday app only works on Thursdays. On other days of the week, you simply won’t be able to use it in full.

Another interesting feature of Thursday is offline events for participants. Unfortunately, in the current world, organization of real world events is often difficult. But we’re sure that the situation will soon normalize and it will become more convenient to date offline using Thursday.

2. String

The key difference between String and similar sites is the complete absence of text chat. Yes, you understood correctly, you can’t text here at all. Instead of text — voice messages. And it’s really a great idea! Why waste time texting when you can communicate by voice? After all, your voice conveys emotions and mood much better, and helps to communicate more honestly and conveniently. Try it, you’ll love it!

3. Source

The developers of Source call it a 3-in-1 application. Here you can independently search the profiles of other users and make new friends, trust random choice or participate in speed dating for five minutes.

This is an interesting approach that helps diversify the process of finding the perfect match for you. Speed dating remains the most popular format at Source. This is logical — that way you can meet and chat with a lot of interesting people in a short time, find those who suit you best, and then continue talking in the chat.

4. Jungle

This is a popular platform for double dates. You can invite one of your single friends to join you on a double date and get to know two other singles together.

The format is interesting because it helps shy people make contact with new people more easily, because face-to-face communication is stressful for many. In Jungle’s 2×2 format you will feel much more confident.

5. Vouch

An unusual dating app where friends or relatives can “vouch for you”. That is, confirm that the profile photos are real, the biography is true, and the interests are real. Thus, Vouch fights against fakes, bots and those who like to embellish their biography on the Internet. And it works surprisingly well! Profiles with confirmations attract much more interest, and dating in the application is often more fruitful than on Tinder or Badoo.

Online video chat: when a proven classic is still good

You might say that we are contradicting ourselves, but the truth is more complicated. The video chat with strangers format has been around for about 12 years. To be more precise, since 2009, when Omegle and Chatroulette appeared. And yet it is by no means obsolete. Indeed, over the past few years it has only become more popular.

The advantages of online video chat over classic dating apps are obvious:

  1. Quick registration or no registration at all. You just start video chat and use it. No extra steps!
  2. Free to use or inexpensive subscriptions. Compared to dating apps, online video chats cost mere pennies to use premium features. Some are even available for free. But in the latter case, the functionality and moderation are not the best.
  3. Video chat is more convenient and comfortable than chatting for hours on a dating site. In addition, video chat can almost replace live face to face communication. Not 100%, of course, but partially.

During the pandemic, online video chat sites saw tremendous growth. Many platforms such as tinychat.com, bazoocam.org, ome.tv, flingster.com, emeraldchat.com and coomeet.com grew their audience by three or four times. Now this format is experiencing a real renaissance.

If you thought that online video chat was a platform where dating is 100% random and you don’t influence anything, this is not entirely true. Most modern chat roulettes offer convenient basic search settings. And some, like CooMeet, can only connect men with girls. Thus, they save users a lot of time.

Novelty is not always better

We cannot unequivocally state that everything new is better than the old. The existing online video chat sites prove that an already familiar format is able to fully satisfy the requirements of modern Internet users and attract a huge audience. It doesn’t make much sense to change something that works so well.

On the other hand, we can see that classic dating sites and apps are no longer as popular as they used to be. Such sites need to change and develop, introduce new functionality and offer unusual online dating formats. Movements in this direction have been observed, but mostly unhurried and very cautious.

It’s up to you to decide which online dating format to use. We’re not saying that you need to completely abandon Tinder or Bumble. We simply recommend that you consider the alternatives and personally evaluate their advantages and disadvantages.

After all, it’s possible that unsuccessful attempts to find a match on the Internet are just the consequences of choosing an inappropriate site for your aims. Experiment, try something new, look for new formats and approaches. And then, we’re sure, results will not be long in coming.
