Singaporean employees will endure almost 520 hours a year in work meetings – with over half of them being deemed as completely pointless according to research from Deliveroo for Business.
The survey of full-time professionals, found that 61 percent believe the meetings they attend every week are a waste of time – so much so that 55 percent cited watching the clock tick by and meetings running over schedule as the things that they dread most about work meetings.
And in a bid to get through the tedium, Singaporeans will tolerate soggy sandwiches, stale biscuits and pastries and hot food gone cold just to ease the monotony during meetings. In fact, nearly 70 percent of those polled said they are much more likely to be enthusiastic about a meeting if food and drink is provided; however, only 7 percent were lucky enough to have almost every meeting catered, with 23 percent getting lucky half the time.
The poll found that nearly half of adults dread one to one sessions with their boss about their progress, 32 percent loathe annual general meetings and 26 percent hate lunch catch-up lunches with clients.
Of those polled, Singaporeans love of anything Japanese was apparent, with the majority saying they would love to have some sushi served at their next work meeting. Dim Sum was another popular go to, while sweet toothed Singaporeans opted for sugary treats such as cakes, muffins, pastries, cupcakes and donuts. Other dishes on the meeting foodie wish list were local favourites Satay, Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata and Chicken Rice.
