The Missing Pan @ Bukit Timah

THE MISSING PAN is a little shophouse restaurant at 619D Bukit Timah Road with a bakery on the first floor and a brasserie upstairs. It is run by the same folks behind artisan bakery and sandwich shop, Uppercrust by The Organic Baker, which used to occupy the same premise.

The restaurant serves modern cuisine with a flair for artisanal baked goods, given the background of the owners.

The menu is kept simple to two pages. Simplicity does not mean a lack of variety. They have everything from hot and cold mains to desserts and even a kids’ menu:

I was invited for a brunch tasting and these are the items I sampled:

Minted cucumber soda (S$6), to kill the scorching heat
Homemade hot cross buns! These were piping hot when they were served.
62 Degree Eggs Benedict – Smoked salmon, avocado, seaweed crumbs on sourdough with in-house hollandaise sauce (S$22)
Beetroot Quinoa Salad – Candied beetroot, arugula, herby flatbread strips (S$12)
In-House Bircher Muesli – Yoghurt, muesli, granny smith, puffed brown rice, oats, maple syrup, nuts, cinnamon (S$10)
Pulled Pork Burger (S$19)
French Toast Salpicon – Chicken, spinach and mushrooms stuffed in French toast, banana nuggets, mixed berries, strawberry-smoked maple syrup (S$19)
There are more good stuff packed inside the french toast when you split it open
From the kids’ menu: Banana Split Sandwich – Brioche, caramelised bananas, marshmallow topped with ice cream, rainbow sprinkles and chocolate sauce (S$12)
Chewy Brownie Cheesecake – a dual-layered confection with creamy cheesecake on top and a rich & chewy chocolate brownie base (S$7.20)
La Passion – Meringue, passionfruit, fresh fruits (S$14)
Mela Con Formaggi – Granny smith, banana caramel sauce, chocolate soil, citrus mascarpone, parmigiano reggiano chips, homemade honeycomb (S$14)

I like this place!

Ingredients are natural and wholesome, with liberal use of veggies and fruits. Parents with young children will be very happy with the menu at The Missing Pan. I know my wife will approve.

The French Toast Salpicon is a must-try. The mix of sweet and savory ingredients seem odd, but they work well together to titillate tastebuds. The chef said he got his inspiration for this dish from the Taiwanese “Coffin Bread (棺材板 )” street snack. This is like the souped-up, gourmet big brother of the Coffin Bread!

Order anything baked or with pastry and you will likely find it satisfying.

The restaurant tend to get quite packed during the weekend. Go early or make early reservations to avoid disappointment. Here are the details for The Missing Pan if you are interested to visit:
