Movie Preview – Bridesmaids (M18)

Bridesmaids movie poster

Bridesmaids is a chick flick I actually enjoyed. It is now showing in Singapore cinemas. I watched the preview with Rachel last Tuesday, thanks to the folks from UIP.

The movie was a suprise hit in the US – it surpassed Knocked Up to become the top-grossing Judd Apatow production yet, grossing an “impressive” $26,247,410 on its opening weekend, the #1 opening comedy and settling for a strong second place behind Thor (via wikipedia).

The cast features largely unknown actors and actresses, but that’s  the beauty of it as all of them add equal flavour to this romantic comedy for a holistic appeal.

Rachel thinks Bridesmaids will be a great movie for sisterhood bonding between a bride and her bridesmaids. I, on the other hand, thinks it will be a great movie for those (particularly single ladies) walloping in self-pity to get out of their comfort zone and fix their own loser life instead of always blaming others for their misfortunes.

I would prefer Bridesmaids to phoney “Eat, Pray, Love” yoga and “exotic” Asia crap  chick flicks anytime.

Bridesmaids (2011):

Genre: Comedy
Cast: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Chris O’Dowd, Ellie Kemper, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Melissa McCarthy, Matt Lucas, Jill Clayburgh, Rebel Wilson, Michael Hitchcock
Directed by: Paul Feig
Writers: Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig
Produced by: Judd Apatow, Clayton Townsend, Barry Mendel
Executive Producer: Paul Feig

This spring, Universal Pictures and producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) invite you to experience Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony.

Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.
