Breakfast at Chin Mee Chin

my morning kopi

Having breakfast at Chin Mee Chin is like taking a walk into the past via a time machine. The 65-year-old Hainanese Kopitiam at East Coast Road has been left virtually unchanged since it served its first cup of kopi.

Here’s the exact address and details: 204 East Coast Road Opens: 8.30am – 5pm; closed on Mondays

I went there on one of those rare mornings where I actually woke up early enough to see the sun rise. It was my first visit to Chin Mee Chin, and I have to admit, the breakfast there is totally worth waking up early for!

In fact, such is its appeal that there is an entry on the Uniquely Singapore website promoting Chin Mee Chin to tourists as one of the unique attractions here:

The aroma of fresh baked pastries and brewing coffee set against mosaic floor tiles, old school ornaments and fixtures, and the almost therapeutic whirring of ceiling and wall fans is enough to make you swear off Starbucks for good. But if that doesn’t do it, dig into its delectable kaya (traditional jam made from eggs, sugar, and coconut milk) toast, swiss rolls, cream puffs and coffee served the old way – in porcelain cups and saucers – and you’ll be a convert soon enough.

Enough talking. Here are some pictures taken at Chin Mee Chin. If you are a morning person, do go try the breakfast there when you are free. I guarantee you it’s better than the overly commercialised franchises of Ya Kun Toast and Toast Box.
