Singapore’s premier gaming event, gamescom asia 2024, kicked off with two action-packed days, setting the stage for an incredible weekend of gaming excitement. Held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, the event brought together gaming enthusiasts, industry leaders, and developers from around the world.
We attended the event for the first two days and here are some of the highlights so far. The event is running from 17 to 20 October, so you still have time to head down this weekend if you have not done so.
Day 1 Highlights
The event opened with a fireside chat featuring Shawn Layden, former Chairperson of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, who shared his journey from PlayStation to Tencent Games and provided insights into the future of the gaming industry. Layden emphasised the growing influence of Asian markets and advised developers to tap into this expanding ecosystem.
Additionally, Xbox’s Agnes Kim gave an exclusive preview of upcoming games from Southeast Asia, including local gems like SEDAP! and Let’s Build a Dungeon. Meanwhile, Matthieu Youna of MyDearest highlighted how VR is shaping the future of indie hits like The Exit 8.
The Invest Circle, a key networking platform, saw developers, investors, and publishers converge, underscoring Southeast Asia’s rapid rise in the global gaming market.
Day 2 Highlights
Day 2 saw the official opening by Singapore Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, Alvin Tan, who highlighted Singapore’s role as a regional hub for gaming and e-sports. The Indie Pitch Competition stole the show, showcasing Southeast Asia’s vibrant indie gaming scene, with Singapore’s own Battlebrew Productions winning Best Pitch for Love In Tiny Spaces.
Fans also got a sneak peek into the Entertainment Area, with VIPs trying their hand at pre-release games like Monster Hunter Wilds and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
As the business aspect of the event wrapped up, the B2B Afterparty brought together industry professionals to celebrate another successful year for gaming in Asia.
