Working from home is a dream come true for many people. You get to avoid traffic and work comfortably wherever you’d like. The kitchen is nearby. You can spend more time with the family. And you don’t have to move around. But the latter isn’t exactly a good thing. I have to admit that as much as I love working from home, I have also become a bit of a couch potato. As much as I love to exercise, the comfort and convenience of working from home have made me a little lazy.
So, when I heard about Maybank Singapore’s new fundraising campaign, I jumped at the opportunity to get moving again. After all, what better excuse to start walking than a virtual walk for charity?
The #WalkForHumanity campaign is a virtual charity walk that hopes to raise S$300,000 to support Singapore Red Cross’ local and regional humanitarian relief efforts. The best part is that Maybank will donate S$10 for every kilometre clocked by participants, capped at S$150,000 in donations, to do good for humanity one step at a time. Plus, they will donate an extra S$50,000 if participants clock in a total of 100,000 km by the end of the campaign.
The Singapore Red Cross is a homegrown humanitarian organisation that serves the vulnerable and strengthens community resilience, both locally and internationally. Through this campaign, Maybank will raise funds to support humanitarian aid for communities affected by the floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines.
You can also make your walk more meaningful by making a donation via the Giving.sg website or starting your own fundraising campaign! These funds will go towards Singapore Red Cross’ local programmes for the elderly living on their own – with befriending and wellness; transportation to healthcare; and home safety services.
Here’s how you can start your own fundraising campaign:
On that note, I decided to do my part by joining the virtual walk myself along with the rest of my colleagues at AM Collective by forming a team. To make things more fun and interesting, we created an itinerary of places to visit, set personal goals, and even added a special prize for the person who clocks in the most steps by the end of the challenge.
Making things fun really helped us push harder to make a difference in our own lives and those in need. So far, we’ve already covered 30km of our target goal of 50 km, which we still hope to reach by the end of the campaign. That’s raising S$500 in which Maybank will be donating.
If you want to do the same for yourself, your family, your friends, or your colleagues; here’s how it works…
Simply sign up for the walk by heading to the 42Race website now. Each participant will receive an e-certification and an e-badge upon completion. If you need an extra incentive, joining the walk actually comes with a few special perks, too. After registering for the walk, you will get access to the 42Race rewards page where you can redeem special online promotions. For offline stores, simply flash your confirmation email or 42Race in-app rewards to enjoy discounts from participating merchants, while stocks last.
Through this campaign, you won’t just help out other people in need; you’ll also get to do something healthy for yourself. It’s the best way to start moving again, especially for WFH people like me who sometimes forget to move around more.
