If you’ve always been intrigued by the Olympics and wondered if you could stand a chance against the best of the best, perhaps one of the more doable sports in the Olympics is the 50km Walk.
During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Dawid Tomala from Poland walked away with the gold medal at 230.08 minutes. Do you think this is a record you could beat or come close to?
Why not test it out by walking for a cause?
Maybank Singapore has partnered with Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to raise funds for their local and regional humanitarian efforts. They are doing this through the #WalkForHumanity campaign – a virtual charity walk which allows members of the public to clock steps and do good for humanity, one step at a time. Maybank will donate S$10 for every kilometre clocked by participants of the virtual walk, capped at S$150,000 in donations for humanitarian aid for communities affected by the floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines. This is in addition to Maybank’s earlier donation to the Singapore Red Cross towards COVID-19 relief in Indonesia.
The public can also make direct donations via the Giving.sg website to support Singapore Red Cross’ local programmes for the elderly living on their own – with befriending and wellness; transportation to healthcare; and home safety services.
In total, Maybank hopes to raise S$300,000 in support of Singapore Red Cross’ local and regional humanitarian efforts.
As a Maybank business banking customer myself, I support this initiative and will be participating with the rest of my colleagues at AM Collective. I am nowhere near the Olympic record timing, of course, and would not be attempting to surpass it. However, I do like walking or taking a light jog to stay healthy and this is right up my alley.
Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is a homegrown humanitarian organisation that has served vulnerable communities for over seven decades. As it is a trusted local charity with strong outreach for local and international relief, Maybank believed they would be the best partner to provide the necessary humanitarian aid during these challenging times. That aside, SRC’s focus on Serving Humanity, Saving Lives also resonates with Maybank’s mission of ‘Humanising Financial Services’ to do good for a better tomorrow.
Through this walk, they hope to not just raise funds, but also to increase the support for Singapore Red Cross’ causes.
How To Participate
Whether you are interested in joining the virtual walk or simply want to do your part to help, you may make donations via the Giving.sg website to support the cause and aid relief efforts. Individuals’ outright donations on Giving.sg are eligible for tax-deductions in Singapore.
