Boyfriend of Taiwanese woman arrested for wearing string bikini in Boracay takes blame for scandalous outfit

When a Taiwanese couple went to Boracay, Philippines for a vacation, the two made a bet. The man won, and the woman’s forfeit would be to wear a very skimpy white bikini, that barely covered her nipples and private area.

The couple then walked around the white-sand beach on October 9, thinking nothing of how scandalous the woman’s attire was, nor the fact that in a few days, her outfit would become a trending topic worldwide.

So here we are, scrutinizing the woman’s tiny, white, string bikini that got her arrested and fined for wearing something “erotic.” With how the news of the arrest had reached all parts of the world, the woman’s boyfriend has taken the blame, pleading for people to stop sharing uncensored photos and information on his girlfriend.

How bad was the Taiwanese woman’s string bikini in Boracay?

The photos circulated online were clear. The thin fabric only covered the part of her breasts that bisected her nipples, and the the back of the bikini bottom was nothing more than a string. The front was barely anything more, with the fabric just wide enough to cover her private parts.

While we do live in 2019, the incident happened in the Philippines, which is a dominantly conservative, Catholic country. Such outfits are uncommon in the public areas of Boracay, but can be seen on the ubiquitous cigarette or liquor calendar poster, usually on a local celebrity.

Take a look at photos of the Taiwanese woman in the string bikini below:

As you can see, her clothing covered very little, but it still managed to cover something.

While this may be common in nude beaches in some other parts of the world and even in Singapore, it was clear with the woman’s arrest and fine of $50 that Philippine authorities would not tolerate such behaviour, even if it were harmless.

The woman’s boyfriend has allegedly spoken to the media, expressing his disbelief at how his girlfriend’s attire had become a worldwide trending topic. He also said how sad and disappointed he was that his girlfriend has been receiving messages and stress from others over the photos, which he has asked publicly to be stopped from circulating.

He explained that she had lost a bet with him, and that the forfeit would be to wear the bikini, which they had bought on the island anyway. He said that if it was prohibited to wear such an attire, then it wouldn’t have been sold on the island.

Still, he and his girlfriend went quietly when they were arrested, and paid the fine, to minimize trouble.

A previous report said that the hotel had warned the couple not to step out in such an outfit, for the sake of the children on the beach. While the hotel staff did not stop the couple, they did warn them.

Our previous report said that the couple considered the woman’s attire as “art,” but now, the man is saying that his girlfriend had put nipple covers under the bikini, which meant they did not want to scandalize anyone.

He has pleaded with netizens to stop sharing photos of his girlfriend, as well as her personal information. He also said that she is under a lot of stress and anxiety over being exposed on the internet.
