More affordable restaurants take the spotlight this year in the second edition of the Bib Gourmand awards in the 2017 Michelin guide Singapore released on 22 June (Thursday).
The list includes nine new entrants, including hawker stalls Ah Er Soup at ABC Brickworks Market, which serves Cantonese-style soups, Zai Shun Curry Fish Head in Jurong west, and New Lucky Claypot Rice, French restaurant Bar-Roque Grill, Liao Fan Hawker Chan which sells Cantonese roast meat, Japanese restaurants Man Man, Tsuta and Shirokane Tori-tama and The Blue Ginger.
While last year’s Bib Gourmand list of 34 had a strong showing of hawkers cooking up a variety of local dishes such as chicken rice to laksa and even the humble curry puff, this year’s list puts the spotlight on six new restaurants serving up delicious food at affordable prices.
Eighteen of the 38 eateries this year are restaurants, with a diversity of cuisine types including French, Indian, Japanese and Peranakan food being represented.
The Bib Gourmand list recognises restaurants and street food establishments offering quality cuisines at a maximum price of S$45.
International director of the Michelin guides, Michael Ellis said: “A year after the inaugural launch of the Michelin guide Singapore, our inspectors remain just as impressed by the dynamic nature of the local culinary scene.
“Indeed, with 38 Bib Gourmand restaurants and street food establishments, of which nine are new entrants, Singapore has an admirable list of Bib Gourmand awardees. This attests to the quality of the city’s cuisines,” he said.
This year’s new entrants join popular favourites that remain on the list, such as Tiong Bahru Hainanese Chicken Rice in Tiong Bahru Market and J2 Crispy Curry Puff in Amoy Street Market.
Five food establishments which made it to the list last year are gone and they are: JB Ah Meng, Hjh Maimunah, Wedang, The Fishball Story and Alaturka.
The list of Michelin-starred establishments will be unveiled at a ceremony on June 29 at The Fullerton.
