Couple who bullied elderly man at Toa Payoh food centre arrested

According to a report on Today Online, the police have arrested a 46-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman for an offence of public nuisance.

Online vigilante like Ang Tock Seng can’t have gotten it more wrong. Ang caused much distress to student, Cherry Tan, 22, whom he claimed was the female culprit. Ang has since recanted his allegation and apologised for his action. We cannot understand how Ang cannot tell the age difference between a 39 years old middle age woman and a 22 year old young lady.

Multiple police reports were made against the couple after a video of  them went viral. The couple were caught on video behaving aggressively towards an old man in a quarrel over a seat at a hawker centre table. At one point, the young man even rammed the old man from behind, causing him to fall forward.

We interviewed a first person witness, Janice Lim. You can read her full account on what really happened at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market and Food Centre.

As the audio and video quality is quite poor, we have also gotten a full audio transcript of the verbal exchange between the couple and the old man.

The victim in the video is 79 years old. His daughter, Caroline Ng, came forward today with a public Facebook post to thank Singaporeans for their care and support over her father’s plight. Ng also shared that she might be pursuing a civil lawsuit against the couple.

According to Today Online, the couple’s identities were established and they were arrested on Tuesday. Police investigations are still ongoing.
