“I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky…”
Really.
I think most of you will find it out of character for me to try something like skydiving, but I did!
We only live once. I regretted not trying it during my previous Sydney trip with HTC. That’s why I am back again to complete where I left off.
This tandem skydiving blog post with Skydive The Beach at Wollongong will conclude my Sydney with Scoot series. Here’s a video documenting the entire adventure:
The tandem skydiving experience with Skydive The Beach was exhilarating.
Everything was very professional, from the insurance forms to the safety briefing. The one-to-one instructors who did the tandem skydives with us were a fun bunch, keeping cheery and warm to help you get rid of any fear. Most of them have clocked over 500 dives individually, with some having skydive as many as 2000 to 3000 over times! We were clearly in good hands.
I have tried indoor skydiving at iFly at Sentosa before, but nothing beats the real deal.
As the plane flew high up the air, I knew it was way too late to pull back. I find myself surprisingly calm throughout, enjoying the scenery outside the plane and marveling at how small the world suddenly looks.
Then, the plane door slided open and out popped the first pair. My instructor and I were the third pair to jump out of the plane. I just had to gently lean my body backwards and the instructor did the rest of the work, including taking photos and videos.
Easy. So easy you will have no time to hesitate or think about fear. The next second, you are already in free fall!
Once out of the plane, both my ears popped and were blocked. I could not hear anything, including my voice. I was momentarily lost as I felt the wind flap across my face and body.
I could feel the flesh on my chubby cheeks, flapping like chicken wings. Here are some very handsome photos of me in free fall:
Although it lasted only about a minute, the dive was amazing! Words are hard to describe the experience, but the R. Kelly song, “I Belive I Can Fly” keeps ringing in my head.
Yes, I am flying!
After one jump, would I try it again?
Why not? 🙂
If you are in Sydney next time, consider trying tandem skydiving. More details on the rates and packages are available on Sydive The Beach website. They have packages for wedding proposals and other special occasions as well. If you are looking for a wedding memorable wedding proposal, why not consider this?
Skydive The Beach is currently in the running for the TNT Golden Backpack Awards – an award that recognises companies who make backpacking around Australia and New Zealand that extra bit special. I voted for them to show some love. Do vote too. 🙂
With this post, it is time to say bye bye to Sydney again… till the next trip.

Oh my gosh Alvin! I’m so envious of you! Skydiving is definitely something to try once in a lifetime and I am so looking forward to skydiving the next time I head to Australia! Awesome pictures by the way!
Hahaha great post Alvin!!! Love the chicken wing faces 🙂
Thank you for sharing with us your pictures and video of the skydive. The pics are hilarious and I love how the instructor was more excited than you about the skydive!
