91% of Singaporeans Are Traveling This Summer and Here Is How to Beat the Crowds and Outsmart Peak Travel Prices

Despite a backdrop of global uncertainty, the desire to travel remains incredibly strong among Singaporeans. A staggering 91 percent of Singapore travellers are planning to embark on a holiday this upcoming European summer between July and August.

This is according to the newly released 2026 Smarter Summer report by Skyscanner.

Below are some of the key findingsfrom the report.

60% of travellers from Singapore feel confident about their ability to travel abroad within the next three months. However, while the wanderlust is highly palpable, many are still in the planning phases. Currently, 35% of these eager holidaymakers are actively searching for trips but have yet to actually secure their bookings.

The delay in making final reservations largely comes down to several key planning hurdles.

Cost remains a massive primary concern for holidaymakers. In fact, nearly 59% of Singapore travellers admit that flight prices have made them completely reconsider their travel plans for 2026.

Aside from affordability, travellers are struggling with the time and effort required to research options and coordinate dates, which affects 24% of people.

Another 22% are suffering from decision paralysis due to uncertain plans or simply having too many options to choose from.

Finding affordable options that perfectly cater to specific travel situations is the biggest challenge for 32% of those surveyed.

One of the biggest mysteries for local vacationers is figuring out exactly when to fly to get the best deals. The report reveals that 25% of Singapore travellers are completely unsure which part of the summer offers the absolute cheapest flights.

For those looking to save, Skyscanner data points to the week of 10 August as offering the best overall value for flights during the July and August summer window.

Of course, 18% of travellers have plans heavily restricted by school holidays or other strict commitments. Yet, timing can still make a substantial difference. For example, Bangkok remains the most popular summer destination for Singapore travellers. If you plan your trip for the week commencing 31 August, you will find the best value for flights to the Thai capital, with average ticket prices dropping to Bangkok, Thailand (S$164).

Brendan Walsh, Skyscanner Travel Trends and Destination Expert, notes that thoughtful planning matters more than ever in today’s complex travel environment. He shares that summer travel planning is about navigating real hurdles like working around fixed dates, avoiding crowds, and trying not to overpay during the busiest travel season of the year. Walsh advises checking live prices and staying flexible on where and when you travel, which can go a very long way in finding better value. He also suggests mixing and matching between airlines and airports to curate the absolute best travel plan.

Fortunately, 42% of Singapore travellers possess the ability to outsmart summer costs simply by maintaining flexibility in their plans.

For those who are highly flexible, exploring alternative destinations is a fantastic travel hack to stretch the holiday budget. Skyscanner has curated a special list of the cheapest alternative destinations that give travellers the best bang for their buck.

If you are looking for a quick regional getaway, average flight prices start very low for several beautiful spots. You can secure flights to Langkawi, Malaysia (S$127) for a budget friendly retreat. Other excellent and affordable options include Krabi, Thailand (S$173) and Cebu, Philippines (S$224).

Spontaneous planners can also utilise the app exclusive Drops function on Skyscanner to find anomaly price drops of at least 20% on various flights.

Beyond just saving money, modern travellers are increasingly looking to escape the typical tourist traps.

A significant 76% of Singapore travellers find the idea of visiting somewhere that none of their friends, family, or social media feeds have been to highly appealing. This desire for unique experiences rises to an impressive 83% among Generation Z.

Furthermore, more than half of the surveyed travellers would actively choose to visit a quieter, less crowded destination this summer. To help with this, travel experts have identified several under the radar destinations with low search interest but high discovery value, such as Johannesburg, Venice, and Urumqi.

Travellers can easily use the underrated destinations filter on the Explore Everywhere feature to uncover even more hidden gems.

Finally, if you are planning to travel with a group, you might want to brace yourself for some friction. Coordinating a group summer holiday is notoriously difficult, with 58% of Singapore travellers stating it is more stressful than planning a wedding. Even more shockingly, 56% say organising a group trip is far more stressful than starting a brand new job.

The biggest hurdles are strictly practical. Finding a consensus on travel dates is the hardest part for 40% of people, while 31% struggle significantly with managing group preferences for flights, accommodation, and daily activities.

To ease this burden, using comprehensive hotel filters can help narrow down stays by the amenities groups care about most, whether that is room setups, pool access, or free cancellation policies.
