Families can look forward to a season of engaging Mandarin-language theatre and interactive arts experiences as The Theatre Practice rolls out two major programmes this mid-year: The Nursery Rhymes Project 4 and the Berries Chinese Theatre Festival: Family Edition 2026. Running from June through August, the line-up promises a lively mix of performances, storytelling, and hands-on activities designed for both children and adults.
Kicking off the season is the official launch of The Nursery Rhymes Project 4, an initiative that reimagines classic Mandarin nursery rhymes for modern audiences. Families can join the beloved Breakfast Kakis as they debut a brand-new story, Long Long Finds a Friend, followed by an energetic sing-along session led by the album’s recording artists.
This latest edition features 12 refreshed nursery rhymes, created in collaboration with Singapore musicians and students from the Practice Education Project. Audiences will also get first access to the Paint Our Songs lyric book, illustrated by renowned Singaporean artist Lee Kow Fong.
Co-presented with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, the launch takes place on 20 and 21 June 2026 at the SCCC Multi-Purpose Hall.
Building on more than 60 years of arts education, The Theatre Practice expands its offerings with the Berries Chinese Theatre Festival: Family Edition. This Chinese-language Theatre for Young Audiences festival brings together performances and participatory experiences that encourage creativity, imagination, and intergenerational bonding.
Festival-goers can enjoy bundle discounts of up to 15%, alongside special promotions for families and partner members.
Here Comes The Breakfast Kakis: Imagine Our Songs!
The energetic Breakfast Kakis return with a new interactive production featuring original stories inspired by Mandarin nursery rhymes. Through singing, dancing, and crafting activities, children are invited to actively participate in bringing the stories to life.
Running across two weekends in July, the show blends education and entertainment while promoting Chinese language learning in a fun, accessible way.
The Three-Legged Crab-Eating Mongoose And The Giant
International collaboration takes centre stage as Flying Group Theatre presents an adaptation of a story by acclaimed author Wu Ming-yi. Featuring puppetry, immersive projections, and live performance, the production offers a poetic exploration of nature, memory, and resilience.
Scheduled for 1 and 2 August, this visually rich piece invites audiences into a magical, thought-provoking world.
Play With: Story Quest
Led by storyteller and educator Ng Mun Poh, this collaborative storytelling workshop encourages families to co-create stories through theatre games. Participants must work together to overcome playful challenges, fostering creativity and teamwork while flipping traditional roles between adults and children.
Play With: The More We Make Together
Veteran arts educator Ang Lay Hoon, also known as Teacher Red, leads this craft-based experience where families transform everyday objects into creative works through guided woodcrafting. The session promotes hands-on learning, collaboration, and imaginative thinking.
Tickets for all programmes are now available, with limited promotional bundles offered while stocks last.
