A new series of heritage-themed neighbourhood trails is inviting residents to explore Singapore’s history while staying active. Walking Trails @ CDC (Heritage Edition) has officially launched with five new routes across the island, combining physical activity with digital storytelling and heritage discovery.
The initiative is a collaboration between Singapore’s five Community Development Councils (CDCs), the National Heritage Board (NHB), and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore.
The launch was officiated by David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Education.
The Heritage Edition expands on the original Walking Trails @ CDC programme launched in August last year, which saw strong public participation. Since its debut, the initiative has recorded more than 80,000 trail completions from around 30,000 residents.
Over the next two years, organisers plan to progressively introduce 20 heritage-themed trails across Singapore, further encouraging residents to explore their neighbourhoods while learning about the nation’s past.
Developed with NHB, the trails feature historic landmarks, cultural sites and everyday spaces that reflect Singapore’s evolving communities. By integrating heritage discovery into neighbourhood walks, residents can rediscover familiar areas while gaining deeper insights into the stories behind them.
The newly launched routes span several districts across Singapore, each highlighting unique aspects of local history and culture.
In Central Singapore, participants can explore the historic Kampong Glam precinct, including the iconic Masjid Sultan.
In the east, a trail in Tampines traces the development of the township, which was Singapore’s first recipient of the World Habitat Award.
Other routes include a coastal exploration in Woodlands, a heritage walk in Bedok that traces former coastlines and former military landmarks, and a scenic trail in Jurong highlighting the iconic Chinese Garden and its distinctive Stoneboat landmark.
Together, the trails showcase the layered histories, cultures and everyday stories embedded within Singapore’s communities.
Along each route, participants will encounter digital checkpoints that unlock bite-sized heritage stories, images and interactive content. These features transform a simple neighbourhood walk into a self-guided learning experience that blends technology with local storytelling.
The programme also aligns with Singapore’s national Healthier SG movement by promoting regular walking, one of the most accessible forms of preventive healthcare, while strengthening awareness of Singapore’s shared heritage.
Designed for residents of all ages, the trails encourage families and multiple generations to explore their neighbourhoods together. By combining outdoor activity with cultural discovery, the programme aims to strengthen community bonds while making heritage learning accessible and engaging.
Adding a playful element to the experience, the CDC Ollies digital mascots will return for this edition. The characters represent five community pillars: Caring, Learning, Inclusive, Healthy and Sustainable.
A sixth Special Edition “mystery” Ollie will also debut in the new series. Participants who manage to spot all six mascots during their trail explorations will receive a $10 reward, introducing an element of surprise and gamified discovery.
To encourage participation, RedeemSG Rewards vouchers will continue to be offered. Eligible participants who complete designated checkpoints will receive vouchers credited through their CrowdTaskSG accounts.
The programme is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 15 and above who have both Singpass and CrowdTaskSG accounts.
