Disney Adventure Christened in Singapore with Star Studded Performance and Surprise Appearance by Robert Downey Jr.

The packed Walt Disney Theatre went absolutely wild yesterday evening when Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance to christen the Disney Adventure right here in Singapore. We were lucky enough to attend the star studded christening ceremony for Disney Cruise Line’s very first ship to homeport in Asia, and cannot wait to be among one of the first guests onboard the preview sailing later today.

As the honorary Godparent of the majestic vessel, the actor best known as Iron Man lent his voice to the ceremonial blessing.

In a moment featuring both Marvel swagger and Disney magic, Downey Jr cued the 23 piece live orchestra, saying, “You bring the theme and I’ll bring the thunder,” before delivering the official blessing: “I christen thee, Disney Adventure, may God bless this ship and all who sail upon her.”

The ceremony itself was a stunning entertainment showcase celebrating the beloved Disney stories, characters and music that come to life onboard. Regional vocalists and musicians took the stage alongside incredible video effects that seemed to engulf the audience through screens surrounding the stage.

Hollywood Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductee Jed Madela and international recording artist Dami Im guided the audience through classic Disney, Pixar and Marvel melodies accompanied by the full orchestra, with special appearances from Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse adding to the magic. This is like experiencing Disneyland on a cruise ship.

The christening marks a monumental week for Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre. The massive ship arrived to a stunning water salute and a dazzling fireworks display just a day prior to the ceremony.

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, joined the artists on stage alongside Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, to mark the historic occasion.

“The Walt Disney Company has always been built on the power of storytelling and innovation, and Disney Cruise Line brings those values to life in extraordinary ways,” shared D’Amaro.

“Our cruise ships are ambassadors of our brand that carry joy, wonder and enchantment to destinations around the world. As our first ship to homeport in Asia, the Disney Adventure represents a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line and will introduce Disney to audiences who may be experiencing our magic for the very first time. It offers fans across this region an opportunity to immerse themselves in unforgettable ways and create memories that are uniquely Disney.” He added.

Drawing on over a century of iconic storytelling, the Disney Adventure is the eighth and largest ship in the fleet.

It boasts seven immersive themed areas, including a recreation of San Fransokyo Street from Big Hero 6. Beyond the fleet’s signature international dining, guests can look forward to regional Asian favorites, bubble tea, an exclusive Broadway style musical titled Remember, and thrilling attractions like the Ironcycle Test Run, which takes the crown as the longest rollercoaster at sea.

The ship will officially embark on its maiden voyage on 10 March, offering three and four night itineraries at sea. We cannot wait to go on our preview sailing later today to explore everything this incredible ship has to offer. Stay tuned for more updates and a full review of our time onboard!
