[Review] Wagyu X Adds Chargrilled and Smoked Steak to its New Menu

Wagyu X, a Japanese steakhouse first launched last year in Singapore, recently expanded its culinary offerings with a new menu, enhancing the experience of indulging in its prized crossbreed beef with a more diverse range of cooking methods.

Known for introducing one of the rarest forms of Japanese Wagyu beef to Singapore, Wagyu X now features Wagyu chargrilled over binchotan charcoal and smoked in Sakura wood fumes, infusing the steak with delightful fruity cherry notes. This cooking process is said to bring out a symphony of flavours, with the intense heat of the charcoal imparting a crispy charred exterior to the steak while maintaining its juicy interior.

With the new menu, you can now savour the melt-in-your-mouth goodness of Wagyu crossbred with the juicy essence of Angus in two mouthwatering iterations at Wagyu X: sirloin or tenderloin.

Complementing the star attraction are new side dishes such as Chilled Somen, Wagyu Carpaccio, Japanese Sweet Potato Croquettes, Horenso Gomaae (Spinach Salad), and Wagyu Fried Rice, each crafted to enhance the overall dining experience.

We were invited to a dinner tasting and these were the items we sampled:

Even with the new menu additions, it is clear that the restaurant is highly focused on its one main ingredient, the rare, crossbred Wagyu X which the restaurant is carrying exclusively in Singapore.

The new chargrilled and smoked options gives a more elevated presentation. With the lifting of the glass lid at the dining table, the infused smoke will permeate the surrounding, adding a little theatric and also teasing you with the aromatic smell. These will all compound into the overall enjoyment of the steak as you dive in.

For the new sides, there are hits and misses for us. The somen and wagyu carpaccio are refreshing cold dish additions to start off the meal and would be a delight to enjoy in the sweltering heat these days. The wagyu fried rice is a little too soft and wet in texture for our liking, but the overall flavour is there.

Overall, it is still their Wagyu X steak that will leave you the deepest impression, now available, chargrilled and smoked.
