Underprivileged families enjoyed an inclusive “Iftar” at McDonald’s Singapore

McDonald’s welcomed Ramadan yesterday evening (31 March 2023) with an inclusive iftar for 40 people from underprivileged families of different races – beneficiaries from 4PM (Malay Youth Literary Association), as well as non-Muslim families from SINDA (the Singapore Indian Development Association), and Willing Hearts to break fast side by side as one.

The guests had the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of the Malay-Muslim traditions during Ramadan, as well as engage in a fun McDonald’s-themed ketupat weaving activity, culminating with a delicious meal for iftar, courtesy of McDonald’s.

With guest-of-honour MP Nadia Samdin in attendance at McDonald’s West Coast Park, the iftar session focused on spreading the spirit of Ramadan for all, bringing families of all backgrounds and cultures together to learn more about the culture and meaning behind fasting during Ramadan.

The “Open Seat” Initiative

In addition, as part of McDonald’s commitment to inclusion, the brand has launched “Open Seat” – an initiative that invites customers to share their tables in McDonald’s restaurants by displaying the “Open Seat” sign provided by McDonald’s, so that Muslim customers are able to break fast on time.

This simple but kind gesture, which will be possible throughout the Ramadan period from 23 March to 20 April, hopes to rally Singaporeans to be proactive in embracing the multiculturalism that makes the city-state so special as they enjoy a meal together with a potential new friend.

“Sayang” – A film centered around the theme of love

McDonald’s has also unveiled “Sayang”, a heartwarming film centered around the theme of love.

The minute-long video was inspired by the experiences of McDonald’s Muslim restaurant general managers who continue to serve their customers with love and care during the fasting month of Ramadan.
