UNIQLO to open five new stores in Singapore bringing the brand’s local store count to 31

UNIQLO announces it will soon be bringing its LifeWear to Singapore’s mature estates such as Ang Mo Kio and Clementi, where shoppers can look forward to upcoming store openings in the first half of 2022.

UNIQLO’s first neighbourhood store that will pilot community partnership projects and sustainability initiatives will open its doors at 51 @ Ang Mo Kio (AMK), a standalone building nestled in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, at the end of the first quarter of 2022. The new store is designed with an inclusive shopping environment for everyone across generations and needs.

Spanning 1,297 square metres (13,958 square feet), the store will be a test bed for new inclusive in store features, such as a wheelchair friendly fitting room, community partnership projects, and sustainability initiatives.

UNIQLO also offer customers with special needs an assisted shopping experience during their preferred time slots via advanced booking. In the spirit of inclusion, this special session is held during operating hours. For special cases, slots can be booked for pre-store opening hours, where lights are dimmed and music muted, with assistance provided by store staff.

UNIQLO staff will be specially trained to assist with the shopping experience.

The retail brand will also debut the UNIQLO Repair Studio in store the first permanent offering in Asia to extend the life cycle of one’s well-loved UNIQLO clothing which benefits both the wearer and the environment. The studio will offer basic on-site repairs such as replacing fallen buttons, mending split seams and patching torn pockets. The UNIQLO staff, who are supporting the repair service, will undergo training with a professional alteration service provider.

Under the Re.UNIQLO programme initiative, the company collects pre worn UNIQLO items from customers to be recycled as part of new products. In the process, waste and resource consumption are reduced throughout product life cycles.

The Down Recycling Project, which launched in 2020, was the first initiative under the Re.UNIQLO banner to produce new items from recycled UNIQLO clothes.

This is in line with the announcement last December by UNIQLO’s parent company, Fast Retailing, of its new business model to support both sustainability and business growth. LifeWear will be transformed into a new industry that meets the definition of good clothing from the standpoint of the environment, people, and society.  Fast Retailing is also extending its initiatives for social contribution and diversity through its apparel business.

More information about the subsequent store openings will be available closer to their opening dates.
