[Review] Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King Niku King at Paya Lebar Square – A New Haven for Ramen Lovers

My son Asher and I have an on-going weekend mission to dine at every Keisuke ramen outlet in Singapore. Both of us are huge fans of Japanese ramen and the casual dining concept of the iconic Keisuke ramen restaurant chain suits us well with their no-frills environment, offering great value (free-flow eggs and bean sprouts; complimentary water) while not compromising on quality.

Free-flow eggs, bean sprouts and grind your own sesame

One of the Keisuke ramen outlets we frequented was the Tonkotsu King outlet at Paya Lebar Square. The 24 seaters Tonkotsu King has now been combined with the adjacent 25 seats Niku King to form Ramen Keisuke Group’s first joint ramen concept – Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King Niku King at Paya Lebar Square.

This latest restaurant opened its door early last week and is Keisuke’s 12th ramen outlet locally. Ramen lovers will be spoilt for choice at the new concept, with the option to order from a wide variety of delectable dishes concurrently across a more extensive, combined menu. Expect queue though, as per all other Keisuke ramen restaurant outlets.

Unlike other Keisuke ramen outlets whereby the menus are usually restricted to ramen and limited sides, this new concept is a haven for ramen lovers, offering a variety of appetisers and other dishes to go together with your ramen choice.

Niku means “meat” in Japanese and the new concept stays true to its name with its ramen offerings each filled to the brim with thick slices of succulent Pork Chasyu slices. The choice of meat also results in a more aromatic broth, made richer after hours of boiling Tontoro Pork Chasyu, a fatter cut in comparison to the classic Pork Loin Chasyu used at Tonkotsu King and the Group’s other ramen concepts.

The signature Niku King Tonkotsu Ramen Special (S$19.90++) is highly recommended as it is exclusive to this restaurant and will delight ramen lovers who love to have a lot of thick Chasyu slices in their ramen, paired with bamboo shoots, seaweed and a flavoured egg:

Niku King Tonkotsu Ramen Special (S$19.90) with extra two slices of Tontoro Pokr Chasyu (S$3 addition)

Niku King offers ramen in three styles, the soy-based Shoyu Ramen (S$11.90++), MIso Ramen (S$12.90++) and Tonkotsu Ramen (S$13.90++). At an additional S$1++ per portion, you can spice up your ramen with Keisuke’s Spicy Paste.

Keisuke Egg Rice – S$3.90++

For those looking to try something different aside from ramen, this outlet offers Niku King’s noteworthy Keisuke Egg Rice for just S$3.90++, featuring a soft fluffy egg blanket that envelopes a warm bed of Japanese rice topped with Pork Chasyu bits, drizzled with a Chasyu sauce. All eggs are Keisuke’s own locally-farmed eggs and are mixed with dashi stock for added flavours.

Salmon Rare Katsu (Deep Fried Salmon) – S$8.90++

Other side dishes exclusive to Niku King include their Deep Fried Pork Chop (S$7.90++) and the crowd-pleaser, Salmon Rare Katsu (Deep Fried Salmon) (S$8.90++). The latter features breaded slices of sashimi-grade salmon fried to a crisp on the outside but kept rare and tender on the inside to offer contrasting textures. Served with tartar, spicy samurai and soy sauces, the dish goes well as an appetiser before your ramen arrives and for people who prefer fish to meat.

Asher and I will definitely be back again for more at this new concept from Keisuke!
