Nikko Tourism & Event Information is proud to share the colourful life at Nikko this year. Many event and tours will be held in Nikko depending on the season. “Flower” will be the special theme of Nikko Spring this year.

The cherry blossom near Nikko City has a higher altitude than the city centre, which is located at the same height as the Tokyo Sky Tree. The blooming season is around mid-April. Cherry blossoms in Nikko have many types of Yamazakura and Shidarezakura. Also, since there is an altitude difference of about 1,000 m from Nikko station around Okunikko Yumoto Onsen, you can enjoy cherry blossoms view for a long period.

The flower paradise is only two hours from Tokyo via the Limited Time Express. Here’s what to expect:

Kirifuri Highlands of Tsutsujigaoka (Mid-May – Late May)

The contrasting view between the colour of azalea blooming in the highlands and the colour of the fresh green leaves will take your breath away. You can enjoy various kinds of colourful azalea flowers here.

Access: JR Nikko Station/Tobu Nikko Station use Tobu Bus bound to Kirifuri Kogen about 15 minutes. Get off at “Kirifuri Falls Entrance, then walk 5 minutes.

Ryūzu Falls Azalea (Late May-Early June)

Ryuzu Falls is famous for its autumn leaves, but in spring, Azalea flowers are also blooming here. The purple azaleas bloom along the waterfall is a sight to behold.

Access: JR Nikko Station/Tobu Nikko Station use Tobu Bus bound to Yumoto Onsen, ride about 60 minutes and get off at “Ryuzu Falls”

Kawaji Onsen Three Dam Tour (Every weekend on April-June)

A bus tour beside the Kawaji Onsen. The passage walks inside the dam are made from wire mesh which brings the thrills while walking!

Nikkokaido Sakura Namiki (Mid-April – Late April)

At Nikko Kaido, you will pass by a 16-km long line of cherry blossom trees. Enjoy about 1,500 cherry blossoms tunnels. It is the kind of scenery you shouldn’t miss in your life.

Access: 30 minutes by car from JR Nikko station / Tobu Nikko station towards Utsunomiya

Nikko City Inaricho Takada-bei’s Shidarezakura (Mid-April)

The famous Shidarezakura in town. The trees’ estimated age is 370 years! When in full bloom, the tree will light up the place.

Access: About a 10-minute walk from JR Nikko Station and Tobu Nikko Station.

Sakura at Gokoku Shrine Kinugawa Onsen (Mid-April)

There are many Yoshino cherries in the shrine area. At “Kinugawa Onsen Yozakura Banquet 2019” to be held from 6 to 14 April, you can enjoy beautiful night cherry blossoms and hot spring banquet culture.

Access: Via train, use Tobu Railway and get off at Kinugawa Onsen Station. It’s a 15-minute walk from the station. Via a private car, it’s about a 30-minute drive via the Nikko Utsunomiya Road Imaichi IC.
