McDonald’s Ha Cheong Gai Drumlets and Burgers are Seriously Good

Leading up to National Day and in conjunction with the 25th Singapore Food Festival, McDonald’s Singapore is infusing local flavours to its menu once again by putting a McDonald’s spin on Singaporeans’ favourites, starting with prawn paste chicken also known as Har Cheong Gai and the king of fruits, durian.

Starting 12 July, McDonald’s will be serving up the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger and Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets; and during breakfast hours, the Breakfast Curry Burger, with McDonald’s signature curry sauce, will kick-start the morning with a punch. McDonald’s will also be bringing back its Kueh Salat Cake at all McCafés, while the indulgent Durian McFlurry® introduced last week has been drawing in the crowds.

Criss Cut Fries, from $3.40

Inspired by the umami flavours of Har Cheong Gai, a uniquely Singaporean style of fried chicken that is popular in local hawker food culture, the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger packs in a juicy whole chicken muscle patty marinated with real prawn paste and coated with crispy breadcrumbs.

Lying atop a bed of whole leaf lettuce, the patty is spread with prawn paste flavoured mayo, covered with a layer of crunchy cucumber slices. Best enjoyed with a hearty burst of laughter (“Ha Ha!!!”), the burger is available from $6.05 a la carte, or from $7.80 in an Extra Value Meal served with French Fries (M) and a refreshing cup of Coke (S). For some exceptional crunch, simply top up $0.70 to upgrade your French Fries to the all-time favourite Criss Cut Fries.

Capturing the true essence of Har Cheong Gai, McDonald’s is also launching the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets to complete the savoury experience. Available from $2.20, the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets (2pc) boast an extra crisp to it, thanks to its generous coat of shrimp paste batter before being cooked to golden perfection.

We got to try some of them firsthand and we are enjoying the moist chicken and the legit prawn paste flavour very much! Take a look at our photos below:

Just look at the crispy batter on the chicken.

They also have criss-cut fries to round off their new selections.

A closer look at that crispy skin and red-prawn paste skin.

Just looking at our own photos make us want another one.

The chicken in the burger isn’t dry at all–and very flavourful too with the prawn-paste mayonnaise sauce!

This is what you get when you open the burger box.

That’s a big slab of chicken, fresh cucumbers and the signature prawn-paste mayonnaise sauce.

The gang’s all here!

It’s a really big burger, btw.

Let us know what you think of these new Ha Cheong Gai offerings from McDonald’s! Share your food photos in the comments.
