Accessible Arts at Accessible Prices at LUMAS Singapore

Earlier last month, LUMAS Gallery launched their first store in Singapore at Paragon:

The LUMAS Gallery first opened at Berlin’s famous Hackescher Markt in 2004, and has now grown with 40 locations around the world.

Most of the work exhibited is by contemporary photographers. There are also prints by more well-known artists like the controversial Damien Hirst, whom some regard as a rebellious genius while others regard him as the epitome of talentless artists who rely on marketing and shock factors to be commercially successful.

The artworks at Lumas are sold via a limited prints system. This creates an artificial, pumped-up ‘demand’ as the prints start getting sold out which will fuel speculation and more buying in order ‘not to miss out’.

Do you know the story of Australian millionaire photographer, Peter Lik?

He’s the creator of the world’s most expensive photograph which sold for US$6.5 million. However, he is a pretty controversial figure as some deem him to be more of a superb businessman than a real artist.

However, the difference between Peter Lik and Lumas is that the latter are priced much more affordable and accessible to the masses. Lumas also offers works from a variety of artists and not just one egoistic individual.

I find it to be like how pop art icon Andy Warhol sells the reprints of his works. A little vulgar and in your face, but also clever and tastefully executed at the same time.

Lumas aims to provide affordable art for people who are not quite in the five or six figure price range of more traditional galleries but are past buying poster art or unlimited prints.

In conjunction with the Great Singapore Sale, Lumas is offering some attractive offers on selected limited edition prints at their gallery. Visit Lumas for more details. Alternatively, you can also email them at artservices@lumas.com.sg or call +65 6834 9535.
