Stirling Bar & Grill is a newly opened restaurant in the Upper Bukit Timah area. It is located opposite Beauty World and along the popular food stretch at Cheong Chin Nam Road. The restaurant’s specialty is it’s steaks and sliders.
The restaurant is named after Stirling Road (Queenstown), the street where the founder and owner Elwyn Chan lived for 20 years. You will see Elwyn in the restaurant, chatting to many of the regulars and serving food. A friendly chat with him revealed that Elwyn came into the restaurant business by incidence. He has more than 10 years of financial industry experience, mostly as a fund manager in several hedge funds and on top of running Stirling Bar & Grill, he is also the CEO of Stirling Fort Asia, a MAS Registered Fund Management Company.
I visited Stirling together with my wife and son a few weeks back for dinner. These are the items we tried:
The grilled watermelon is an interesting dish to sample. It’s charred on the outside, giving a crisp texture, while the natural juiciness will still ooze out when you sink your teeth into it. Eat it in a mouthful with the parma ham and rocket salad to get the full flavour of the dish.
I like the charcoal grilled steak and find the price to be very reasonable for a relatively large cut. Rachel enjoyed the potato mash from her salmon main, fork crushed to give that slight chunky texture to complement the main.
There is no kid’s menu at Stirling, but the Stirling Sliders are good substitutes. Order that and some fries as well as the grilled watermelon and the little ones will be happy.
If you are going to Stirling for their awesome charcoal grilled items, note that grills are only available from 6pm – 10pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
Stirling supports local musicians and have regular music showcase. They also have a curated selection of wine and craft beer which are popular with many of the regulars who hang out at the bar.
I quite like the ambience at the restaurant and I can see why regulars like to hang out there for drinks and catch up with their friends or even the owner. It reminds me of an updated version of Central Perk Cafe in the hit sitcom, Friends. There’s music, drinks, good food and a friendly owner in a cosy neighbourhood. What’s there not to love. 🙂
Prices are also pretty reasonable and easy on the wallet for quality food.
