The new Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100

The new Panasonic DMC-LX100

Last week, Panasonic proudly introduced the DMC-LX100 with 4/3-inch large High Sensitivity MOS Sensor for the 6th generation model of Panasonic’s LX high-end compact camera series. The new DMC-LX10o is not just a successor to the DMC-LX7 but a jump-up mode that even inherits the DNA of the DMC-LC1 – the first full manual compact camera released by Panasonic in 2004.

I am a fan of Panasonic cameras. As they do not produce DSLR, Panasonic will always try to push the boundaries and pack the best features into their micro 4/3 and compact cameras to challenge the leading DSLR brands. This gives the consumers better value and amazing quality packed in a smaller, lighter camera:

To achieve even higher picture quality and multi-aspect capability, the DMC-LX100 incorporates the 4/3-inch high sensitivity MOS sensor. It lets subjects stands out of the background with stereoscopic effect. By keeping the resolution to 12.8 megapixel, the amount of light is secured enough to improve S/N ratio, making it possible to capture clear image with minimum noise, even when shot at high ISO. The Venus Engine is also newly developed to feature multiple noise reduction systems such as Multi PRocess NR, Random Filter and Aperture Filter to achieve high colour reproduction and high image quality with natural description.

The DMC-LX100 comes fitted with the newly developed LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMULUX lens (35mm camera equivalent: 24-75mm) boasts F1.7 to F2.8 high speed and high descriptiveness in detail and resolutions to corner.

The DMC-LX100 integrates a Live View Finder with 2764K-dot equivalent high resolution and approximate 100% colour reproduction. This 16:9 Wide Sceen Live View Finder boasts approximate 1.39x/0.7x magnification and 100% field of view.

The DMC-LX100 is also capable of smooth, high quality video recording not only in full HD 1920 x 1080 60p (NTSC) but also in 4K (QFHD 4K: 3840×2160, at 30 fps (NTSC)/ 25 fps (PAL) in MP4). With this 4K video recording capability, Panasonic is proposing a new way of photo creation, “4K Photo”, by cutting out a 3840×2160 8-megapixel equivalent image from the 4K video footage for capturing spur-of-the-moment which are often missed in still image photography. Operation is easier with the newly added 4K Photo mode:

In addition, the DMC-LX100 features newly combined Depth From Defocus technology, improving accuracy and speed to achieve Light Speed AF of approximate 0.14 second to capture fleeting photo opportunities. High speed burst shooting can be shot at 11 fps in full resolution.

Other features include Wifi connectivity with NFC, a bundled external flash and RAW data development in camera. The DMC-LX100 positions itself as a digital premium compact camera that is light, easy-to-use, yet delivers high picture quality – perfect for bloggers like myself who usually carries a camera everywhere, daily.
