Thermos celebrates 110th anniversary with sale

If there is room in your wallet for one sales event this weekend, you must go to the Thermos 110th anniversary sale at Ngee Ann City. Thermos geeks can go gawk at a mini pop-up museum and bargain-hunters can snap up deep discounts and free gifts.

Awesome wall of Thermos star products

Here are some of the star buys available until 28 September:

The new FFZ-1000F Sports Bottle, U.P. $65, now $45
4.5L Shuttle Chef, U.P. $290, now $189 – I bought this!!! Go look up recipes at https://www.facebook.com/thermos.singapore
SK-3020 Food Jar, U.P. $65, now $39

Actually, almost the entire gamut of Thermos products are available at this sale, at discounted prices.

As I mature in age and fall into the rank of “aunty/mother/homemaker”, I get excited by things which enhance my experience as a provider of cooked meals and washer of dishes.

One of these things is Thermos products.

My very first Thermos purchase was made more than a year ago, when I chanced upon a vintage-looking food jar at an Isetan atrium sale.

You have no idea how much I love the Thermos Stainless King.

My Thermos Stainless King Food Jar comes with foldable spoon

I will list its pros in order of preference: 1) Keeps food hot, at above 65 deg Celcius, for up to five hours. 2) Easy to wash; no deep grooves where grease gets trapped. 3) Completely watertight and airtight. 4) It has a cute foldable stainless steel spoon which fits on top of the inner lid. 5) It’s easy to pour food in and out of the wide mouth.

Cons: Heavy and gets dented easily.

Asher has used it most often, to bring piping hot porridge or soup to preschool for lunch. At Thermos’ current 110th Anniversary Sale at Ngee Ann City, however, I found a new food jar which Asher won’t easily dent. It doesn’t have a foldable spoon but that’s perfectly fine – it’s lighter and has a PVC top.

Founded in Germany in 1904, Thermos has grown from strength to strength at developing stylish, functional, vacuum-insulated products to suit different lifestyles. This year, it is releasing a Sports Bottle Range (FFG and FFZ series) and an Urban Chic bottle (TS-400). These are designed for active people because, according to recent research by Thermos and Yokohama National University, sports physiology researchers found that people who play sports should drink water at a temperature of 5 to 15 degrees Celsius, because it helps the body absorb liquids to cool down the body more quickly. These come with a washable bottle pouch.

The Sports Bottle Range products (prices start at $55 for a 500ml FFZ model) come with leak-proof spouts and keep cold beverages at 10 degrees and below for up to six hours. I was wondering about the functionality of these pour-type bottles but realised that these are more hygienic to wash and maintain than pop-up straw bottles.

The TS-400 ($39), to be released in October, is a 530ml vacuum-insulated, push-button pop-up straw bottle. It is black and white and sure to match your clothes. It fits perfectly in most cup holders inside of cars.
