Parenting with Pampers – Part 4

This is part 4 of a 5 part parenting feature with Pampers.

Together with four other parenting bloggers, I am given the chance to try out Pampers range of ultra dry diapers: Pampers Active Baby and Pampers Active Baby Pants while at the same time, share some simple parenting tips.

You can read the other parents blog posts via omy Blog Club.

In this post, I am going to write about traveling with a baby.

Happy family at a flower field in Hualien, Taiwan

Asher is 20 months old now. He has flown to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Taiwan with us last year and we will be bringing him to Taiwan and Bangkok later this year before he turns two.

He is much more fortunate than me. I think I only first get to sit in an airplane when I was in primary school.

Many of our friends with babies think Rachel and I are very “brave” to bring a young baby traveling, considering all the hassles involved. We are not brave, we just love our son very much and want to spend quality time together as a whole family.

Besides, for babies under the age of two, we only have to pay a nominal airfare for both budget and full-service airlines. Might as well make use of this fare discount while we can. 🙂

Here are a few traveling tips which we hope may be helpful for parents intending to travel with babies:

PACKING

Remember, always safety first

1. For disposable items like diapers and wet wipes, you can bring along just enough for one day use and buy the rest at your travel destination to keep your luggage light.

2. Invest in a cheap, light stroller for travel use. When traveling, we use a stroller that cost less than S$100 and weighs less than 7kg. It can be folded and opened easily for loading and unloading when in transit.

3. Invest in one large suitcase for the whole family instead of a few mid-sized ones. For Rachel and I, she will push the stroller while I pull the large suitcase, enabling us to be more mobile when traveling.

4. Get child medicine from your doctor in case your child fall sick during the trip. Always buy travel insurance for your child.

5. Always factor in extra time of around half an hour to one hour to the usual travel itinerary. Having a child with you will slow you down, but the experience was worth it for Rachel and I.

6. Bring you own child-friendly eat-wares.

IN THE PLANE

On board a high speed train from Hualien to Taichung

1. When the plane is taking off or landing, feed your baby with milk or water to prevent the air pressure from hurting the ears.

2. Do not feed your baby with too much milk when flying to prevent excessive puking with air sickness.

3. Bring along a small toy or a book to keep your baby entertained while in the plane.

4. Always standby a vomit bag, especially after your baby had a lot of milk or a heavy in-flight meal.

That’s it. Have a pleasant travel. 🙂
