A Peek into Rediffusion (丽的呼声)’s Studios @ Harper Road

Since Rachel was assigned to do a story on Rediffusion (丽的呼声), she was able to take some photos at their studios at Harper Road before they cease operation at the end of this month.

This blog post is my humble contribution towards conserving the legacy of Rediffusion:

If you are too young to know about Rediffusion, here’s a brief history via wikipedia:

Rediffusion Singapore (丽的呼声) is a company which originally pioneered cable radio in Singapore, and is currently a digital radio service. The company has touted itself as Singapore’s only subscription radio service and the “1st in the WORLD to broadcast on DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus)”.

Rediffusion Singapore was founded in 1949 as a result of the success encountered in radio broadcasting in Singapore, particularly in the post-World War II era. The cable radio service was seen as a remedy against poor reception which affected certain housing estates until then. Rediffusion Singapore was operated by Overseas Rediffusion, a subsidiary of the Rediffusion broadcasting business based in the United Kingdom, from the former’s foundation until the late 1980s, when the British-owned Rediffusion conglomerate was broken up.

Since 2000, Rediffusion Singapore has been providing digital radio services in Singapore.

Rediffusion will go off air from April 30, 2012.
