Conveniently located at 1 Raffles Place and catering simple, quick-to-serve Asian meals, Simply Asian Meals (SAM) is obviously targeted at the bustling, time-starved office crowd in the area.
I chanced upon the restaurant after a work meeting nearby. The restaurant looks cheery and the price seems pretty reasonable. I wanted hot Asian food served fast, but in a more comfortable setting than a food court. SAM fits the bill.
SAM offers a wide selection of Asian rice and noodle dishes on their menu. I ordered a katsu don while my lunch companion ordered beef noodle. Both tasted equally bland and unmemorable. Asian flavours, yes; tasty, no.
Nonetheless, the meals were served fast, clean and efficiently like in regular fast food restaurants serving burgers and fried chicken.
The restaurant was enjoying good business when we ate there. Customers flow in and out constantly. The Asian food on-the-go concept probably works well in Raffles Place, but I would believe this is location specific.
I am not likely to eat at SAM again unless I am happen to be in the area and am in a rush, with a sudden craving for Asian food.
