Created by Japanese manga artist Hajime Isayama, ATTACK on TITAN follows humanity’s fight for survival against mysterious, man-eating Titans. The story centres on Eren Yeager, a determined young man seeking freedom; Mikasa Ackermann, a fiercely loyal and highly skilled fighter; and Armin Arlert, their intelligent childhood friend known for his strategic thinking.

Their lives change when the Titans breach the Walls protecting their home, forcing them to join the military and fight for humanity’s survival. Along the way, they encounter key figures including Levi, widely regarded as humanity’s strongest soldier; Erwin Smith, the military commander leading the fight against the Titans; and Hans Zoe, an inquisitive commander determined to uncover the truth behind the mysterious creatures.

ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical focuses on the early part of the story, broadly covering events from the beginning through the Battle of Trost. Certain elements have been condensed and rearranged to suit the stage adaptation.

Rather than simply recreating the manga, the production uses original songs written specifically for musical theatre to express the characters’ emotions, relationships and conflicts. The show also incorporates Guren no Yumiya, the iconic opening theme from the first season of the ATTACK on TITAN anime.

The production is directed by Go Ueki, with a book by Masafumi Hata, music supervision by KEN THE 390 and lyrics by Kaori Miura. Its creative team brings together music, theatre, choreography and visual design to recreate the intense world of ATTACK on TITAN through live performance.

The show adopts Japan’s 2.5-dimensional musical format, which brings characters and fictional worlds from manga into physical theatre. The term describes the space between the two-dimensional world of the original artwork and the three-dimensional experience of live performers on stage.

Through choreography, costumes, stage effects and contemporary technology, the production aims to capture both the visual identity of the Titans and the emotional intensity of the story.

ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical premiered in Osaka and Tokyo in January 2023 before making its first international engagement outside Japan at New York City Center in October 2024. It subsequently returned to Japan for performances in Tokyo in December 2024 and Osaka in January 2025.

During its New York engagement, audiences travelled from 48 US states and more than 20 countries, including Canada, France and Singapore, to see the production.

The upcoming Singapore season marks its first engagement in Southeast Asia, giving local audiences and fans from across the region an opportunity to experience the original Japanese production without travelling to Japan.

Beyond its action and fantasy elements, ATTACK on TITAN explores themes of friendship, courage, freedom, sacrifice, loss and resilience. Its portrayal of people fighting to protect their loved ones and determine their own futures offers an entry point for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

The Singapore season runs from 15 April to 2 May 2027 at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. Performances are scheduled from Tuesday to Friday at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 1.30pm and 6pm.
