[Review] The Shop at Grand Hyatt Singapore: Cakes, Bakes, Martinis and Gourmet Treats to Take Home

If you associate Grand Hyatt Singapore with hotel dining and afternoon tea, The Shop offers a different way to experience its food and beverage offerings.

Located on the lobby level of the hotel, the gourmet shop brings together freshly prepared pastries, cakes, breads, beverages and selected gourmet products, allowing guests to enjoy some of the hotel’s offerings without committing to a full restaurant meal.

We recently had the chance to sample a selection from The Shop, including petite cakes and tarts, freshly baked savouries, bread, olive oil, bottled martinis and cheese associated with the hotel’s dining menu.

The Petite Strawberry and Mango Tart was a natural place to start.

Clockwise from Top Left:
Peach Lychee Oolong Cake, Mango and Strawberry Tart, Calamansi Tart and Guanaja Chocolate Cake

Small enough to enjoy in a couple of bites, the tart offered a combination of buttery pastry, creamy filling and fruity flavours. The fruit helped keep the dessert from becoming too heavy, making this a suitable option for those who prefer their pastries on the lighter side. It will also work well as part of a dessert spread when entertaining at home.

The Petite Lychee Peach Oolong Cake was another of our favourites from the selection.

Lychee and peach bring a naturally fragrant and fruity character, while the oolong element adds a more grown-up tea note. Rather than relying purely on sweetness, the combination gives the cake a more layered flavour profile.

For chocolate lovers, the Petite Guanaja Chocolate Cake takes a more intense route. Guanaja chocolate is known for its deep cocoa character, and the cake delivers a richer profile compared with the fruit based desserts.

If you prefer something sharper and with a zesty, citrus note, the Petite Calamansi Tart would do the job.

Next up, the Sausage Roll was the more savoury choice among the pastries we tried. The pastry was crisp on the outside while the sausage filling provided the savoury centre.

Paired with a seasonal Danish, it made for an easy breakfast or afternoon snack combination. The Danish also adds some variety depending on what seasonal filling is being offered, so there is an element of discovery when returning to The Shop.

Pete’s Focaccia was another item that stood out for its versatility.

Rather than being a complicated preparation, focaccia works because of its texture and the quality of its basic ingredients. The bread had the characteristic soft interior and slightly firmer exterior that makes it suitable for eating on its own or pairing with other ingredients. Pete’s Focaccia is currently listed at S$8 per portion through The Shop’s online store.

We also tried Pete’s Place Olive Oil with balsamico, which turns the focaccia into a simple but satisfying combination.

The olive oil brings richness while the balsamic adds acidity, creating a useful pairing for bread at the table. The Shop currently lists Pete’s Place Olive Oil, 250ml, at S$28 and Acetaia San Giacomo Balsamic, 250ml, at S$28.

The bottled Lychee and Passionfruit Martinis from Martini Bar offered something different from the bakery selection.

Bottling the cocktails makes them convenient for serving at home, particularly when you want something more interesting than wine or beer without having to mix drinks from scratch. The lychee version leans towards a fruitier, more aromatic profile, while the passionfruit option brings a brighter tropical character.

The cheese selection from Les Frères Marchand was particularly interesting because the producer is also featured as part of 10|SCOTTS’ Grand Evening Indulgence. The relaunched 10|SCOTTS highlights Les Frères Marchand cheeses alongside charcuterie and other savoury offerings. The cheese selection gives diners another way to enjoy the same provenance focused approach outside the restaurant setting.

The Shop’s appeal is in the convenience of bringing together different parts of the hotel’s food and beverage offering in one place for take out or light bites. A cake for a celebration, focaccia for dinner, pastries for breakfast, cheese for a gathering or bottled cocktails for an evening at home can all come from the same counter.

Its online shop extends this concept further, with categories covering pastries and desserts, bakeries and cakes, beverages, wines, champagnes, spirits and other gourmet products. Selected items require advance ordering, while the physical outlet operates daily from 8am to 8pm. Self collection is available from 10am to 7pm daily.
