MJ The Michael Jackson Musical to Make Southeast Asian Premiere in Singapore in 2027

MJ THE MICHAEL JACKSON MUSICAL will make its Southeast Asian premiere in Singapore, with the four-time Tony Award winning production set to open at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, from 1 August 2027 for a limited season.

Tickets for the Singapore season are now on sale, with several priority access and presale periods available before the public sale. UOB Priority Access via Klook began on 28 September at 3pm, offering 20% off all categories and performances. Waitlist subscribers and UOB cardholders will have priority access from 29 September at 10am, with UOB presale tickets available through Marina Bay Sands, SISTIC and Klook at 20% off all categories and performances. The public on sale begins on 30 September at 10am, with an early bird promotion offering 10% off selected categories and performances.

The Singapore season is being presented by original Broadway producers Lia Vollack and John Branca, together with Michael Cassel and Base Entertainment Asia.

The arrival of MJ in Singapore will bring the musical to a city where Michael Jackson performed two sold out concerts during his Dangerous World Tour in 1993. Set in 1992, the musical takes audiences behind the scenes during the creation of Jackson’s Dangerous World Tour, exploring his creative process and the collaborative work involved in bringing the production to the stage.

The story is told through the perspective of an MTV journalist who receives rare access to Jackson’s rehearsal room. Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, whose works include Ruined and Sweat, the musical looks beyond Jackson’s signature dance moves and global hits to explore key moments in his artistry and career.

MJ features more than 25 of Michael Jackson’s songs, including Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror and Thriller. The production combines Jackson’s music with choreography and theatrical design to recreate the scale and energy associated with his performances.

The musical has already been seen by more than 8 million people worldwide through productions on Broadway, London’s West End and in Hamburg, as well as tours across the United States and Australia.

MJ has received four Tony Awards, including Best Choreography for director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon OBE. Wheeldon also received the Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography for the West End production.

The production’s creative team includes Scenic Designer Derek McLane, who has won two Tony Awards and two Emmy Awards; Lighting Designer Natasha Katz, an eight-time Tony Award winner; Costume Designer Paul Tazewell, a two-time Tony, Emmy and Academy Award winner; and Sound Designer Gareth Owen, a Tony and Olivier Award winner.

The team also includes Projection Designer Peter Nigrini, a four-time Tony Award nominee; Hair and Wig Designer Charles LaPointe, a two-time Emmy Award nominee; Make up Designer Joe Dulude II; Musical Supervisor David Holcenberg, a Tony Award nominee; and Orchestrators and Arrangers David Holcenberg and Tony Award winner Jason Michael Webb.

MJ THE MICHAEL JACKSON MUSICAL will run at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands from 1 August 2027 for a limited Singapore season, marking the production’s first stop in Southeast Asia.
