Dyson CameraJet Brings Camera-Powered Precision Flossing to Everyday Brushing

Dyson has unveiled the Dyson CameraJet, a new toothbrush designed to combine brushing, precision flossing and mouth rinsing in a single routine. Revealed by James Dyson in Paris, the device uses a built-in camera and artificial intelligence to identify gaps between teeth and deliver a targeted burst of mouthrinse while users brush.

The Dyson CameraJet is the result of six years of research, development and engineering. Dyson says its technology addresses common challenges in oral care, particularly the difficulty of cleaning interdental spaces, where plaque can accumulate. The company notes that nine in 10 people do not floss as regularly as recommended, while the average person spends around 45 seconds brushing, compared with the commonly recommended two minutes.

At the heart of the CameraJet is Gap Optical Targeting, Dyson’s AI machine learning system. Its 100,000-pixel macro lens camera scans 28 live images per second to detect, track and predict gaps between teeth in real time. When a gap is identified, the system can trigger a precision jet within 100 milliseconds, directing a conical burst of mouthrinse into the targeted area.

The system runs on 16 million lines of code and was trained using 470,000 dental images collected during development. Dyson says this enables the CameraJet to identify gaps and precision-floss between teeth while brushing.

Dyson has also developed a conical jet designed to remove plaque while being gentler on gums and enamel. The company spent years optimising the jet profile and worked with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry over five years to develop a proxy plaque for testing and refinement. Dyson says conventional needle-type water flossing jets can pierce plaque without fully removing it, while its broader conical spray is designed to sweep plaque away at lower pressure.

A compact 12.5ml anti-gravity mouthrinse tank is built into the system. Using a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber, it is designed to provide controlled jets regardless of whether the toothbrush is upright, angled or horizontal. This is particularly useful when cleaning the back of the teeth, where the device may be held horizontally.

The charging dock is designed to refill the toothbrush at the touch of a button in three seconds, while also charging and storing the device upright between uses. A travel case is included for use outside the home.

The CameraJet comes with a dual-bristle brush head designed around the shape of teeth. Slightly firmer inner bristles are intended to remove surface stains, while softer outer bristles clean along the gumline. The brush head also features a sonic dampener for comfort and acoustics, as well as a target lens that expands the camera’s field of view to support predictive gap detection. Each brush head carries an RFID tag that tracks usage and alerts users when replacement is needed. A sensitive brush head variant is also available for users with sensitive teeth and gums.

For brushing performance, Dyson has introduced variable sonic oscillation. The technology changes the angle of oscillation as users brush, helping keep the bristles moving instead of stalling against tooth surfaces. Dyson says external testing found that the technology removed up to 69% more plaque than market-leading premium electric toothbrushes in hard-to-reach areas.

The Dyson Dental System also includes specially formulated toothpaste and mouthrinse. The toothpaste does not contain SLS, a common foaming agent, to help keep foam from obstructing the camera’s view. The mouthrinse is formulated for use with the precision jet and includes an antibacterial formulation designed to help reduce malodour-causing bacteria and freshen breath. Both products contain sodium fluoride, phosphates and xylitol.

The toothpaste and mouthrinse will be offered in Ginger Mint and Spearmint flavours, while a Peppermint Sensitive toothpaste will cater to users with sensitive teeth.

The CameraJet is also connected through Wi-Fi at 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. Its integrated camera functions as an endoscope, allowing users to view what the camera sees through the MyDyson app. Dyson says the camera is active only during live viewing or auto-jetting, with no images recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.

Through the MyDyson app, users can access guided cleaning, instructional videos, brushing and flossing insights, coverage mapping and personalised feedback. The system also allows users to switch between automatic gap detection and manual jetting modes, as well as adjust brushing intensity.

In Singapore, the Dyson Dental System will be priced at $699 and will be available from 1 September 2026 at 5.30pm SGT. From 2 September, it will be sold at Dyson stores across Singapore and selected electronic retailers. The package includes the Dyson CameraJet toothbrush, charging dock, two brush heads and Pogo cable. Customers purchasing the CameraJet directly from Dyson will also receive a complimentary Starter Kit containing Dyson Toothpaste and Dyson Mouthrinse, while stocks last.

Dyson Toothpaste is priced at $15, Sensitive Toothpaste at $18, and Dyson Mouthrinse at $15. The Dyson CameraJet will be available in Ceramic Pink and Ceramic Ultra Blue.
