Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Review: Excellent Noise Cancelling for Everyday Use

In Singapore, a good pair of wireless earbuds needs to survive our humid weather, block out loud MRT trains and other urban sounds without being overly complicated. Over the past week, I tested the new Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro (S$239).

My goal was to determine if these affordable earbuds could match the performance of much more expensive brands. After using them daily, I found them to offer great value for money in a very simple and easy to use package.

When you first unbox it, you will notice that Anker has changed their design completely. They removed the long plastic stems that usually point down from your ears. Instead, the earbuds are shaped like smooth ovals. To keep them from falling out, they have a small soft fin that rests gently inside your ear.

As everyone has different ears, Anker includes five sizes of silicone tips and flat attachments to help you find a comfortable fit. I wore them on long walks in the hot weather, and they stayed perfectly in place. They are also protected against sweat and dust, which is an absolute must for our tropical climate.

The charging case is just as clever. It has a tiny touch screen built right into the front. This little screen lets you check your battery life and change your noise cancelling settings without taking your phone out of your pocket.

Inside, these earbuds are powered by a new smart chip that handles tasks instantly. You can control your music just by speaking. By saying a simple wake phrase, you can ask the earbuds to turn up the volume or skip a song completely hands free.

They even offer a live translation feature that comes handy for travel. If you use a work laptop and a personal phone, you will love how they connect to both devices at the same time. You can listen to music on your computer and answer a call on your phone without pressing any buttons to switch over.

When it comes to music, the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro sounds fantastic. Right out of the box, the music has a very strong and energetic bass. If you love dance or pop music, you will really enjoy this deep sound.

However, if you prefer clearer voices, the companion app on your phone is easy to navigate. It has a quick hearing test that creates a custom sound profile just for your ears. Selecting the clear vocals option removes the heavy bass and makes singers sound beautiful and natural.

The top notch noise cancelling is another key feature.

It automatically adjusts to your surroundings and does an amazing job at blocking out the low hum of vehicle engines and the loud chatter in busy food courts. While it might not block out every single high pitched sound, it performs just as well as earbuds that cost twice as much, if not more.

Phone calls are often the weakest point for affordable earbuds, but Anker has solved this problem well. These earbuds use multiple microphones to focus only on your voice. I made several phone calls while walking down a noisy street. The people on the other end of the line heard me loud and clear, with almost zero background noise interrupting our conversation.

Battery life is also excellent for daily use. The earbuds last for about six and a half hours of continuous listening with the noise cancelling turned on. When you store them in the charging case, you get a total of 28 hours of battery life. If you turn the noise cancelling off, the earbuds can last up to 12 hours on a single charge.

Overall, the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro is a great choice for anyone who wants high quality features without spending a fortune. They fit securely, block out annoying noises, and make your phone calls sound crystal clear. While the bass is quite loud at first, the smartphone app makes it simple to adjust the music to your liking.
