Held at the SCCC Creative Box on Level 6, the exhibition features original costumes, artefacts, photographs, magazines, multimedia installations and interactive experiences that showcase the rich history of Singapore’s Chinese television industry. Organised into five chronological zones, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the industry’s early beginnings, defining milestones and future possibilities.

The first zone traces the origins of local Chinese dramas from the 1960s to the early 1980s. Visitors can try dubbing a scene from Good Morning, Sir!, learn about the influential talent discovery programme Star Search, browse vintage television magazine covers and pose with props set against a backdrop inspired by the classic drama The Awakening.

The second zone focuses on the 1990s, widely regarded as a golden era for local Chinese dramas. On display are 12 original costumes from memorable productions including The Return of the Condor Heroes and The Legend of Ji-Gong, alongside a showcase of Star Awards trophies spanning different years. Visitors can also step into recreated sets from The Golden Pillow, The Unbeatables and The Return of the Condor Heroes.

The exhibition’s third zone explores the 2000s, a period marked by increasing international competition and a rapidly evolving media landscape. Through timelines, magazine displays and behind the scenes interviews with industry professionals, visitors can gain insights into changing production practices and the growing global influence on local television.

The fourth zone shines a spotlight on the craft of scriptwriting, featuring original and reproduced scripts from selected dramas together with video clips that demonstrate how actors transformed written dialogue into memorable performances. A video interview with Mediacorp scriptwriter Cheong Yan Peng also offers a glimpse into her creative process, the challenges of writing for television and her hopes for the future of Singapore’s entertainment industry.

Looking ahead, the final zone examines the present and future of Chinese television dramas through an installation featuring television sets from different generations. Visitors can explore vertical format micro dramas and take part in an interactive voting wall where they can share the types of stories and genres they would like to see in future productions.

To complement the exhibition, SCCC will organise two public talks in August and September 2026. The first session will feature media, entertainment and history researcher Su Zhangkai, who will discuss the formative years of Singapore Chinese television dramas between 1963 and 1982. The second talk will bring together award winning scriptwriter Ang Eng Tee, Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story executive producer Loh Woon Woon, and artistes Chen Liping and Richie Koh to discuss how scriptwriting and acting have evolved across generations. Registration details for both talks will be announced closer to the event dates.

Admission to Singapore TV: From Local to Global is free. The exhibition will run daily from 10am to 6pm at the SCCC Creative Box, Level 6, from 9 July 2026 until 26 January 2027.
