WhatsApp has announced the launch of Incognito Chat with Meta AI, a new feature designed to give users a completely private way to interact with artificial intelligence while keeping conversations hidden from everyone, including Meta itself.
The new feature builds on WhatsApp’s long-standing focus on privacy, following the introduction of end-to-end encryption a decade ago. With Incognito Chat, users can have temporary AI conversations powered by Meta’s Private Processing technology, which is designed to ensure that messages remain inaccessible to outside parties and are not stored after the session.
According to Meta, the feature is aimed at addressing growing concerns around privacy as more users turn to AI for sensitive discussions involving personal finances, work related matters, health concerns, and other confidential topics.
Unlike some existing incognito style AI chat features offered by other platforms, Meta says its system prevents even the company itself from viewing the questions asked or the responses generated. Conversations are processed inside a secure environment and disappear by default after the session ends.
When users begin an Incognito Chat with Meta AI, the conversation exists as a private and temporary session visible only to the user. Meta says this creates a safer environment for users to explore ideas, ask questions, or seek assistance without concerns about conversations being monitored or retained.
The company also revealed plans to expand its private AI capabilities in the coming months through the introduction of Side Chat with Meta AI. Powered by the same Private Processing technology, Side Chat will provide contextual AI assistance within ongoing chats without interrupting the main conversation.
Incognito Chat with Meta AI will begin rolling out gradually on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app over the coming months.
